Question Test Drive II Play Disks

I can't seem to create a Test Drive II Play Disk. I have a blank disk, but it won't recognize it as a play disk or allow me to make it into one. It just keeps asking me to insert it.

I'd like to race using the scenery packs or car packs, but I'm not sure what's keeping me from completing this step. Perhaps someone with a functional play disk might post it in the zone?

Thanks!

(For those of you keeping score, I'm on a Mac using the latest E-UAE with Hi-Toro. I've been going through the games I used to own and making them functional, the only problems being the play disks in cannon fodder, airborne ranger, and now TDII--none of which I can create, even with disk acceleration turned off )

All you need to do is specify the drive that the play disk is in (for example DF1: ) and then select "Make Play Disk". What part isn't working for you?

Keep trying, but no luck. I'm trying it on the PC, and it keeps asking for the play disk when I try to make it. I've tried it both on the Mac (my usual place) and my PC, but in both cases, it keeps asking for whatever the name is of the disk I'm trying to make and not taking it.

I have the manual, but I don't think it's a usage problem. I know I have the correct permissions and disk accelleration off. Maybe I'll try some other versions. If you have any suggestions or want to share a game disk, please. Otherwise I'll keep futzing with it when I'm bored.

Ok. I think I know where you are getting stuck. Follow these steps. (Assuming the TD2 disk is in your DF0: and a blank/formatted ADF is in DF1

1. Start TD2
2. Select "INSTALL" from game menu
3. Select "Play Disk" from install menu
4. Type DF1:
5. Press button at "Insert Play Disk" prompt
6. Press ESC at "DF1: is not a play disk" prompt
7. (It should now give you a message to "Select 'Make Play Disk' to make this disk into a play disk.")
8. Select "Make Play Disk" from the install menu
9. Files should start copying... (You'll need to use the Copy Cars and Copy Scenery to add additional files... One thing you can try is to use a HD (1.8M) ADF. I used one on my A3000 (real disk) and was able to fit all my cars on one disk!)

Thanks for the relply! I tried what you said, but I couldn't get past "Make Play Disk". Whenever I do, it just keeps asking that I insert a disk. I keep inserting blank disks created in WinUAE. I also have the car and scenery disks, but it never asks for 'em.

This time I'm testing in the latest WinUAE on a PC. Disk acceleration is off.

Step-By-Step, try 1:

1. I boot the game, then select Install.
2. I select "Play Disk"
3. I enter DH0 (the single drive on this emualted unit)
Insert play disk DH0. Press button to continue, ESC to cancel
4. I insert my save disk (named Gas.adf) and push the button.
Insert play disk DH0. Press button to continue, ESC to cancel
5. I press ESC.
Select 'Make Play Disk' to make this disk into a play disk.
6. I select "Make Play Disk" (Gas.adf is still in DH0)
Insert play disk DH0. Press button to continue, ESC to cancel.
The process repeats endlessly.

In try 2, I tried naming the play disk Gas, but had the same reply in the end:
Insert play disk Gas. Press button to continue, ESC to cancel.
And it won't take.

I even tried using a disk in DH1 as a second drive, no luck there either. Same reply:
Insert play disk DH1. Press button to continue, ESC to cancel.

How the heck is this thing supposed to work anyhow? What am I doing wrong?

I also have the WHDload for the game, but I have no idea how to use that stuff. I don't know much about the Amiga OS, but it sounds like it would be a neat way to go--having it all on one image.

I don't really care. I would like to use the other cars & scenery though.

DH0: is a hard drive. You should be using DF0: for the floppy.

(BTW, disk accelleration can be on.. I'm using A500, KS1.3 configuration)

Thumbs down No dice.

I got that, and tried it again with the colon. Test Drive II still seems to think of that as the name of the disk, not the letter of the drive because it doesn't tell me to insert a disk "into" DH0:, but just to insert that disk.

1. I boot the game, then select Install.
2. I selected "Play Disk"
3. I entered DH0:
Insert play disk DH0:. Press button to continue, ESC to cancel
4. I insert my save disk (Saver.adf) into DH0: and push the button.
Insert play disk DH0:. Press button to continue, ESC to cancel
5. I press ESC.
Select 'Make Play Disk' to make this disk into a play disk.
6. I select "Make Play Disk" (Saver.adf is still in DH0)
Insert play disk DH0:. Press button to continue, ESC to cancel.

The cycle continues...

Again, if you're entering DH0: it's not going to work. DF0: is the first floppy drive.

Unhappy I'm stupid, but stubborn.

Oh my goodness. You are quite right.

Anyhow, getting back to the setup (but updated for DF0 -- and indeed there are different responses), perhaps this time you might be able to see where I'm going wrong:

1. I boot the game, then select Install.
2. I selected "Play Disk"
3. I entered DF0: this time (duh!):
Insert play disk in DF0:. Press button to continue.
4. I insert my save disk (Saver.adf) into DF0: and push the button.
Insert play disk DF0:. Press button to continue, ESC to cancel.
5. I press ESC.
Select 'Make Play Disk' to make this disk into a play disk.
6. I select "Make Play Disk" (Saver.adf is still in DF0: )
Insert play disk in DF0:. Press button to continue.
7. I press the button.
Insert play disk DF0:. Press button to continue, ESC to cancel.
And now we're back to the beginning again.
