Joypad (2 button) support thread

Hi guys,

I'm noticing a leaning towards joypad/2 button support in slaves now; can we start listing here slaves which would really benefit from 2+ button support? And while we're on the subject, is it possible to support *more than* two buttons with a joypad on an Amiga?

Hello

Yes, it's possible to support up to 7 buttons via CD32 joypad (or compatible). Thread about games with 2+ button support is here.

Ah cheers, but FYI I meant this to be a WHDLoad-specific thread, i.e. requests/suggestions for joypad enhancements to slaves. Maybe they shold be merged, nto sure.

You know what would be really cool? 3 button support. Not for CD32 controllers, but for specifically built 3-button controllers. The hardware can support, but you'd have to build the controller yourself.

But I guess not many people would be interested.

I was playing Shadow Dancer 2 days ago, and I was thinking how it would benefit for having a jump button... then I was going to keyboard to use the ninja magic, and I was like "it would be good to have a button to use the magic".

That game would be a lot more enjoyable (and a freaking amazing port) if you could actually play it using 3 buttons.

It seems some games actually do support 3 buttons ... but like I said, I'd guess not many people would care about it.

I could easliy list games that would benefit from 2 button support (also 3 button ), and I'd even like to help, but I have no idea of how to do it.

It is possible to have 3 buttons, but i don't know any game which support 3 buttons, only 2 or CD32 joypad. Even WHDLoad team don't bother with 3 buttons support, if is needed 3 buttons then is CD32 joypad support added.

Flashback support only 2 buttons (except newest slave with CD32 joypad support). You can choose in options 2 buttons control, there's no 3 buttons setting. Playable with megadrive pad with 3 buttons, but only buttons B and C are used.

There's a readme file on the floppy telling you how to activate the third button.

Did you see that readme?

Sure, there's read.me (!) file on 1st disk. It says:

Code:
FLASHBACK version 1.0 (22/4/93) English
     ---------------------------------------

     END...
Sorry, but it's only myth... unless You have some unknown enhanced version...

Use the search feature on eab? also Hired Guns and ADoom - the readme is probably on the original flashback i.e ipf.

its probably possibe under winuae isnt it?

I have original (IPF), there's nothing more in read.me.

Someone check this?

The German manual says that the PC version supports all 4-buttons of the Gravis joypad. You can use the MD pad though for the Amiga version but only 2-buttons are officially supported. For more you need a hardware mod iirc.

Actually it's still read.me in french version. It says something about modification but, again, did somebody check this?

Edit: Don't get me wrong. There are some games (mentioned Flashback, Hired Guns and ADoom), which should work with modified MD joypad. But unless it's confirmed, for me it's like unfinished proof of concept.

Edit 2: Just checked Flashback on WinUAE with "gamepad" setting (3 buttons). Cannot made 3rd button to work, used 2 button setting (there's still no 3/4 button option).

Edit 3: Also checked Hired Guns and... well... it doesn't support even 2 buttons (choose 4 players, 2 joys and 2 keyboards). One button and no more. Fire + up for shoot, fire + down for reload, fire + sides for changing menu options.

So is there anyone who can confirm that it works? Because for me it's still myth... sorry.

I think there's a keyboard combination to press in order to active the three-button mode.

What combination?

Sorry for asking, but are You really believe that in Flashback and Hired Guns are some well hidden control combinations/options not available in menus?

Edit: I really would be very happy, if this works. But for me it sounds like some conspiracy theory that authors hide some useful control options for player.

For you my friend:
Quote:

- 1 prise femelle 9 broches (type DB-9)
- un câble à 9 fils (environ 20 cm)

Schéma :
Code:
Prise DB-9 Mâle Prise DB-9 Femelle

                     - -

                4 | . |-----/----\--------------| o | 4 AMIGA
                    | | / \ | |
                  9 | . ----/--------\------------| o 9
                    | / / \ | /
                5 | . /---' \----------| o / 5
                    | / | /
                    | / | /
                     - -

Cela revient donc à relier chacune des broches de la prise mâle
à leur homologue de la prise femelle, sauf la 5 qui va à la 7,
	la 6 qui va à la 5 et enfin la 7 à la 6.
