Action Replay Mk IV rom

What exactly is this version I see in the shots on this page?

http://flashtro.com/page.php?id=419

It's not in the roms package at KGWHD and it's seemingly not in the TOSEC either. I'm confuzzled. Seeing as the tutorial basically mentions ARIV a lot I'm inclined to just want to go for what it suggests hence me asking for some help in finding it. Ta.

Its a hacked/enhanced version of 3. I have it somewhere. If you like I will dig it up and upload it to the zone.

ARIV is software based.

Just an idea:

Start with something basic, before starting to decrypt and fight crunchers;

The problem for me with some tutorials on Flashtro is that they boil cracking the games down to:

press button A
type statement B
save track C
and you've cracked the game

That seems less like learning to crack games and more like practising following recipes to me.

Like with the Dynamite Dux tutorial that the first link above points at - it says things like "Rob Northern copylocks always start with..." and "remove this code or the Amiga will crash"

These may be factually true but surely the art of cracking the games originally was to work all that stuff out on your own without an instruction manual of how to do so...

Anyway, just my tuppence worth and no, I've never really done any cracking so yes, what I'm saying might be a load of old rubbish.

It is used to disassemble the crypted Rob Northen Copylock code (AR IV has a build-in decrypter for that kind of code). However, as "marty" said, you shouldn't look at things like that yet. No offence but the questions you asked about Alien Breed '92 yesterday clearly show that you still have a lot to learn. Besides, just knowing how to enter a command in some cartridge to decrypt Rob Northen code doesn't mean you're a cracker.
Plus, I agree with pmc.

And I agree with PMC and Stingray.

The addage of walk before you can run springs to mind.

In the case of older Copylocks which I would advise looking at as there is no need to know whats going on inside them, just to realise what the Copylock end result is, which is to generate a serial key.

Look at stuff like Batman The Movie for a simple Copylock, don't look at a tutorial, if you can figure out how to locate the Copylock, you 'should' be able to figure out what it does.

If your ASM knowlege isn't up to it, perhaps simply understating basic ASM would be a more useful start.

As PMC stated, the Flashtro tutorials don't go into any kind of explanation of WHY you need to do things, or how they discovered the protection, they just tell you where it is, and what you need to do to disable it.

I had no tutorials when I started, had to figure it out all on my own.

Understanding basic asm is essential (not understating it, afaik asm doesn't care how you feel about it)
And the comment about flashtro tutorials is a bit sweeping - there are lots that fall into the traps you mentioned, but there are also several that explain in detail every step of the process from discovering the protection to defeating it.
But in general I'll just echo what the others have said... walk before you run, learn the basics about asm, amiga h/w (especially disk-related registers) and start with simpler protections (see various suggestions above) before you tackle anything too extreme.

Just to be clear, that's why I said *some* tutorials on Flashtro in my previous post.

There are actually better ones on there too, WayneK's being high up among them.

There is a 'Action Replay 4 BETA (1993)(-)(AGA)[cr Paradox - Interpol].zip' on the EAB file server in the folder 'Misc/The Zone!/A'.

It is Action Replay 1200 (http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=23712) which has nothing in common with A500 versions, different author(s), totally different internal software and lot less features.

Progammer utilities :
Those are tools not excessively serious !
Otherwise, that thing would have had a seriously boring marketing.

Finally... is there a professional freezer on A1200 ?
There was one on A500, there is a recent one on C64, why not something pro on A1200 ?

Are A1200 non-maskable interrupts maskable ?

"Unclear on the concept"
