ECS KS 2.0 games
Hi guys.
What are those Amiga ECS games that require the Kickstart 2.0 to start? Is there a list? |

Legion, originally needs kick 2.0, because FFS disks. And 2MB of memory.

Dont remember, maybe 1 or 2 Amiga titles was released on FFS disks in XX century.
Maybe any new Amiga games from XXI century was released on FFS disks. |

Luma (2022) is KS 2.0 & 1MB Chip :
https://oldhol.abime.net/6829 Minskies Furballs is ECS but can't remember if it's KS 2.0. You will have to check https://oldhol.abime.net/2492 Last edited by malko; 01 May 2024 at 14:58. Reason: silly mistake |

Wrong list. Mostly FFS disk formatted games needs kickstart 2.0 to boot.
Some Amiga released games uses part of WB 2.0+, like "Type" to boot. Or "Echo" in Startup-Sequence. After replacing with WB1.3 version will be boot. I often did this for my collection games. Even Legion can be now boot on kick 1.3 with 2MB RAM (1MB chip minimum). If someone replaced RTDD with something like RTZXDD. And repacking Crunchmania packed files with ZX packed files to fit game data on OFS disks. |

I don't see editors requiring kick 2 and cutting themselves from the 1.3 market. I'm surprised some cases exist for ECS.

@Don_Adan : According to the coder, Luma requires KS2.0.
https://zooperdan.itch.io/luma-amiga But maybe doing what you indicates will make it run under 1.3. Did you try ? |

I dont try. I dont have access to Amiga.
If Luna author used parts of WB 2.0, like Type or diskfont.library, then this game needs kick 2.0. These parts can be replaced with WB 1.3 parts. Sometimes ramdrive.device or similar thing must be copied to game disk from WB 1.3 disk too. Only if game used full FFS disk, and data cant be fitted on OFS it can be problematic, because data must be packed or repacked with better cruncher. And last possible thing. If Luna author used Vasm or Vbcc for assembling/compiling in default mode. It will be dont works on kickstart 1.3, because word relocs. When always default mode for Amiga was longword relocs. |

the game Dracula "Bram Stoker's Dracula" from 1994
requires kick 2.0 to run because the floppies were formatted using FFS or so yet this game is very strange and particular, originally comes in 2 disks but fits perfectly in 1 disk without any modification or file lost, just a few assigns |

I found this in TOSEC though: Bram Stoker's Dracula (1994)(Psygnosis)(Disk 1 of 2)[cr CLS][b corrupt file][KS2.0]
One could filter all '[KS2.0]' games from TOSEC and then test them against the original disks to weed out those that added the KS 2 requirement for the crack. |

^ I am very surprised to learn that crackers limited the compatibility of a game...
My experience was at the opposite as it happened that I had to search for a crack to play a game I bought but was not functioning on my extended A2000.... |

I wanted games with KS 2.0 because I wanted to test this "Kickstart v2.0 Emulator (1991)(-)(A500)" , on A500 ocs/ecs with 1MB.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to launch any of the games you suggested. They crash while loading. I tried LUMA_1.0 Minskies Furballs - The Abduction (1996-12-05)(Guildhall)(OCS-AGA)(Disk 1 of 4) Bram Stoker's Dracula (1994)(Psygnosis)(Disk 1 of 2)[cr CLS][b corrupt file][KS2.0]. This emulator doesn't work on A500 with 1MB? From what I read here, some AGA games could also be ported for OCS/ECS? Last edited by Sasuke; 02 May 2024 at 13:46. |
