The AGA version has WHDload (needs ROM) and
Standard (needs Westwoodtool.library [included]) options.

And the PROTECT button on Dopus should remove the write protect.

@Solu_Kazuki - Thank you very much for the download link

21. (Possibly daft question......)
I've un-zipped these files (on my Linux box)
What do I do with the files now ?

21.1. Do I just copy these files into the Amiga HD ?

21.2. Or do I need an existing WHDLoad, install of EOTB-2
and then copy the files over that ?

@Malko - Thank you, thats interesting.

@Nobby_UK - Once again, thanks very much mate. Thats very helpful.

22. I loaded up DOpus, clicked on the "protect" button
and it shows that the rom file was RWED - (Read / Write / Executable / Delete)

(Which to me - would make sense, you would want a file to be all of the above.
In order to use and manuipluate it properly.

Howver, I've tried every variation of chosing the file permissions
(from leaving them all blank - to everyting ticked/chosen
and everyting in-between).

I keep getting the same (or very similar) error message
telling me that I cannot access the file, as it has wither a read flag
or a write flag / protection, against the file.

23. As this was getting bogged down, with files everywhere
I have span up another brand new WB 3.1 HD installation.

And (as before) I have downloaded and installed
LHA.run
Installer 43.3
WHDLoad_usr.lha (2020-10-25)

To give me a clean slate to work from.

@Solo Kazuki - Apologies, I fat fingered your name as I was typing out my Wall-O-Text.

24. I've copied accross your flles, however when I try and run/load the game
I experience the following error message:
[CLI 3]
Could not open westwood.library

However, as you said, the westwood.library is definatley contained within the files.
(I can physically see it in the folder, both on my Linuix OS and within the Amiga dir).

However - As I stated earlier, I am using my brand new WB 3.1 installation
and I have not (yet) done a fresh install of EOTB-2 (WHDLoad version)

24.1. Does the EOTB-2-AGA require an already installed version of EOTB-2 in order to work ?

About westwood.library, just put it to "Libs" directory on system partition and game should work now.
No, it's not required at all something from OCS/ECS version, AGA version from my archive is complete.
I can say more - You DON'T copy or use anything from "normal" (OCS/ECS) version, because most of data is different (based on VGA PC version) than in "normal" version and You just damage AGA version.

I also copied the fonts over to System Fonts

Don't know if that was strictly necessary ?

Success !! (Kinda)

Once I moved the westwood.library into the Libs drawer - It worked
The game loaded successfully !

Thank you.

However, there is now, a couple of new issues.......

25. When I start a new game, go to the chararter creation screen.
The basic screen loads, but I cannot click/select/chose any of the 4 boxes
They show as basic stone (like the background)

Normally you would select a box, chose a character- type / alignment /etc, etc.

So I cannot progress into the main game itself.

26. So I loaded up EOTB-1-AGA version.
It loaded, I chose new game, (the character selection worked)
I created a party. Started a new game. And saved it.

I then loaded EOTB-2-AGA, and then chose (import party from EOTB-1)
and that worked perfectly.

I was then able to start a new fresh game from scratch.

27. The auto map seems to cause screen courrption, and then crashes the game.

28. I then got to Darkmoon. attempted to pass the clerics door into the main game
- It crashed

I tried to attack them direclty and the game crashed.

Please don't take this as a complaint (I'm just letting you know how I'm getting on).

I'd llike to say a MASSIVE - THANK YOU. To everyone who has taken the time to help me out,
trying to get one of my favourite old games, running on my favourite computer.

Cheers guys, you are a bunch of legends !

Copy fonts to "fonts" directory on system partition.

When You are transferring party from first part without any experience, You'll have critical troubles in second part. Why? Because first part You are begin on level 3 (of experience), second part on level 6 or 7 (class depending), and transfer is plannde to party from end of part 1.

@Solo Kazuki

29. I'll copy the fonts accross to the relevant dir, and see if it makes a difference.

30. The reason that I imported a party from EOTB-1-AGA, is that is the only way that I have been
able to progress past the character selection screen, and into the main game.
(ATM its litterally impossible to create any characters / party.
So I cannot actually start the game at all on EOTB-2-AGA).

31. Oh yeah, the very low level of the starting characters became apparent, very quickly.

I was getting my arse handed to me by the Dire Wolves, and the 2 clerics at the very beggining in Darkmoon.

I wont have been able to play the game at such a low level.

31. In the meantime, I went back to playing the OCS version via floppy disk / ADF
(I also was using a blank .ADF / floppy disk, for my save game files)
I've gotten about midway through the game like this.

However - Going back to point 29.

29. Copying accross the fonts into the System fonts dir = worked !!!

29.1. I then loaded up WB 3.1, inserted my savegame disk (ADF) from my OCS save games, into DF0:

Then copied accross my savegame files, over to the data-vga dir.

(I've (currently) only done a few limited tests however) -

29.2. The Auto map feature works properly (It no longer seems to casue a crash)

29.3. I've moved around the map, and fought some creatures.
Again, (so far) this has not caused any crashes.

This is looking very promising.
I'll do some further testing before marking this as resolved.

Thank you. Thank you. THANK YOU.
To everyone who has taken their time, to help me get this game running for me.

It's massivley appreciated !

[Edit]
32. The game still wont allow me to create any characters / party.
So I cannot actually start the game properly.

However my workaround of creating a party in the OCS version does work
E.G. -

* Load EOTB-2-OCS
* Create a party in (EOTB-2-OCS version)
* Start a new game in (EOTB-2-OCS)
* Save the game
* Exit the game
* (In WB) Copy the save game (from ETOB-2-OCS) into the dir called "data-vga"
(in the AGA version of the game)
* Load the EOTB-2-AGA game
* Load the save game from the menu
* Continue the game as normal......

Maybe a little messy, but IDC, it works.
