[Request] Updated Wings Slave

I've been playing this fantastic game again after many years, the one gripe I have with playing it these days is the saving method. Is there a way to stop the game erasing the pilot data once you die? I know if you quit before the funeral screen you can avoid having your pilot erased but the hassle with this is loading the game over and over...

An ideal scenario would be if you die you still see the game over sequence but your pilot is not erased, then you can just get on with playing the game again. I'm hoping there's some interest in this as it could really improve the games pick up and play factor.
