Pinball Dreams (NTSC Version)

Hello, all. Hopefully this is the right place to post this. I own an NTSC copy of Pinball Dreams for the Amiga. It's probably a very late NTSC release for the platform, with the two disks having a copyright year of 1994. Unlike the PAL one on an NTSC machine, this one doesn't cut off the image and plays most of the music at the proper speed. Both disks work fine for the most part, though for whatever reason the Nightmare table wouldn't load on last time I tried. The other tables loaded fine. I would like there to be a dump of this version, since there doesn't seem to be one anywhere. The only Amiga I have is an NTSC A500 with Kickstart 1.2, and I transfer files using a null-modem cable. Is there any way I could dump the disks at all with the hardware I have? I tried using Amiga Explorer and X-Copy Pro, but neither worked. Anything would be much appreciated. Thanks.

The problem is that this game use an MFM disk format, and is also copy protected if my memory do not fail me.

You need an A1200 or a kryoflux board to image the disk on a PC.

Is there an existing ipf of the NTSC version?if so you don't need to dump it.
Some times US versions had different copy protection or just manual protection.

There is a Disk to allow you to make an IPF of it. But you need OS 3.0 and 020+ and fast ram I think. You can get an ACA500+ for your A500 and 030 card and have a nice system that can do this and also run WHDLoad games...

The thing is, if you use the disk to make an IPF, would it be supported by WHDLOAD ?

You mean KryoFlux free dumping tool ?
https://www.kryoflux.com/?page=download
It doesn't make an IPF, it creates a RAW image which then can be turned into an IPF (if the dump is error free that is).

NTSC version is supported in WHDLoad.

Does anyone have a install of the WHDload NTSC version if not it looks like the author is Galahad and maybe he can say what copy protection the NTSC version has?

Off-Topic can the Raw images be used in Winuae or Kyroflux or they have to be sent to the sps team to be turned into IPFs?

Exactly the same as the PAL version, MFM protected.

Shame it's not as easy as I'd like it to be...

But about that ACA500+ TjLaZer mentioned, damn that looks like it'd be pretty sweet to have sometime. I'll have to look into it.

Where in the US are you? Maybe an Amiga user near you that has the hardware can assist you to make a backup or WHDLoad install...

I check the dump

Disk 1 is OK, i have an IPF, however, Disk 2 has :

1) track 16.0 is bad, need a redump.

2) track 78.1 is modified due to highscore saving. Can be changed if you dump the disk in kryoflux heavy format (KFRAW), the untouched highscores tracks can be added from the euro release.

Hmmm. I noticed when I installed it in WHDLoad one file came up as 0. Maybe this is why. I tried to image it on multiple computers as I had an issue with it even starting on my 1200. Ripped it on my 4000 and it loads and runs fine. All 4 maps.

ok tried disk 2 again, but I think the A1200 I used it on might have a bad drive. Kryoflux disk would not run on my A4000 GVP 4060.

hi TJ, i checked your new disk 2 dump. Track 16 is always a problem, i can't decode it correctly.

I would need a kryoflux dump of a original disk 2, and a kryoflux dump (KFraw) from your own disk 2 to make an unmodified version NTSC of Pinball Dreams.

ok my disk must be bad. The game seems to work fine on WHDLoad though. Hopefully someone else can dump their disk 2.
