Dug out my old AIAB zips and after a bit of work got it all set up on Windows 8.1 Added in all of the gamepacks that used to be up on the site and got to playing Walker for about an hour.

The program looks and runs great, even by today's standards.
Jaybee really did a wonderful job with this. Even his tutorials were top notch.
Would have loved to have met him if only to buy him a few pints for a job well done.

Hello all,

Apologies in advance for exhuming this quite dead thread, yet today I remembered of ye olde AmigaInABox project (I used to follow it... errrr... more than 15 years ago). Eventually I found out Jaybee's AIAB r10.6 on http://aiab.ultimateamiga.co.uk/ and went curious about the HD games - only to understand that they can't be downloaded from there.

So I tried to find those. I failed, but in the process I landed on this thread, that mentions a r10.7 of AIAB?! Yummy!! But the files were deleted from the zone more than 2 years ago I suppose... Would anyone be so kind as to re-upload AIAB r10.7 on the zone?

essaion, read this first; EAB File Server then use the search option there and search for "AIAB" without the quotes. At first try, increase the search number limit from 30 to for example 50.

Wow. Thanks a ton your answer, ma693541!
Needless to say, I found what I was looking for - and so much more than that. Just "wow". And again: thanks!

After a long hiatus, I found the time and willingness to continue one of my pet projects:

You can fin AIAB r10.7 beta 9 in The Zone! for download.

More than a beta, it seems this is just a release candidate. I havent found any serious bugs yet. So I encourage you to test it and comment.

What is this?
This is an up to date AIAB release attempt, updating older components to newer versions and respecting the concept that created this distribution as faithfully as possible.

What is new since last beta ?
Reverted back to good old and trusty MUI 3.8. The 4.x branch seems to be a mess.
Updated all Mui classes to their latest incarnations.
Implemented the following two mui patches: muimaster020v5 + DC-VLmui.
Updated icon.library 46 to latest 46.4.465.
AmiStart updated to 0.70.
WhdLoad updated to 18.3.
BoardsLib updated to 3.35.
Reverted back to older rtg.library version due to missing transparency features of the newer one.
ScalOs Menu workaround finally removed and properly fixed.
AIAB installation no longers hangs inexplicably.

What is new since latest Jaybee`s original AIAB ?
IconLib 46.4 (46.4.465 supports OS4 icons. So no need for resource hungry AfAOS for that)
Expat.library 4.3 (required by Annotate)
ScalOS 41.5 -> 41.8 (with compatibility fixes in rtg.library)
Picasso96 2.0 -> 2.1e
MCP 1.46 -> 1.48
AmiStart 0.65 -> 0.70
Dopus 4.16 > 4.17pre20
WhdLoad 16.4 -> 18.3
WhichAmiga 1.3.22 -> 1.3.3 with getmhz check enabled to support ACA accelerators
BoardsLib 2.29 -> 3.35
lha 2.12 -> 2.15
ahi.device 6.6 -> 6.7
asyncio.library 39.2 -> 40.6
68040.library 44.2 -> 46.5
gtlayout.library 47.1 -> 47.2
screennotify.library 1.0 -> 1.2
xpkSHRI.library 2.2 -> 2.6
popupmenu.library 10.8.6 -> 10.11
All MUI custom classes are now installed by default and updated to their latest versions.
Implemented two "safe" MUI fix patches: muimaster020v5 + DC-VLmui.
GoldEd 5 demo -> Annotate 3.0.1 (GoldEd was a restricted outdated demo version. Annotate is free and supported)
WarpPNG 45.9 -> Cloanto PNG DataType 43.3 (Replacement required to properly display png menu images. WarpPNG was failing). Thank you Cloanto !
WarpJPEG 45.5 -> jfifdt 44.7.m1 (supports HAM, free and open source)
Plus many more tiny tweaks here and there.

Future plans:
If all goes well and no bug is discovered within a reasonable span of time, I will release this version as a v10.7, and then tackle on the aiab-internet package which certainly needs a lot of love and gentle care

AIAB was the first amiga distro pack, it was free, and will continue to be that way.
Thanks again to Cloanto for letting me use their png datatype for this project.

Any comment is welcome.

Personally I'd stick with 18.2 as some people seem to be having issues with 18.3 on different Amiga models for no apparent reason.

So would this run nicely on a real Amiga like CWB, or is it bloated like AmikitReal?

I remember running AIAB in emulation long time ago and was very impressed. But that was my first re-introduction after I left Amiga behind in the early 90s and never got to see a full option RTG system.

Good job gulliver, pity we can not set the location, old Scalos-V1.2d included the various languages.

AIAB is a very lightweight distribution. It was designed for WinUAE in mind, not for a real Amiga, but can be easily be modified to work on one.

It has very little requirements:

A 68020 cpu
kickstart 3.0 or 3.1
workbench floppy disc 3.0 or 3.1
About 25MB of HDD space for the base install
and will need aproximately 12 MB of total ram
A Picasso96 compatible graphics card

For more information regarding it, go to http://aiab.ultimateamiga.co.uk/

@AMIGASYSTEM

As long as no one does a catalog file for later Scalos versions, nothing will change.
Remember we still have the old language aiab package that does support many other languages and keyboard layouts in several of the included programs.

I noticed that on AIAB v10.7 there was the predisposition for the extension AfA-OS, good, I added THIS missing file package and now the graphic appearance, icons and characters has improved greatly.

quick question. Has anyone tried to update AIAB to accept WB 3.1.4?

It can surely be done, but requires some knowledge to make it happen.

I am currently very busy with AmigaOS 3.2 and have other projects that require my attention first. But if not I would gladly do it.

I've tried to set a minimum startup based on AIAB's "Crap Boot" section of its startup... I've felt in love from the first time I saw it. You just click on right mouse button when you startup and you go to fullscreen kingcon shell based, the thing is, whenever I try it, it always asks me for kcon:, and since it has mcp requester I can mount it, but originally it mounts it. I have no idea how it is originally done!

Anyone?

You would have mount kcon: in your script somewhere before newcli or newshell.
