Amiga 3000 Troubles
I have an amiga 3000 with ks 3.1 v40.68,a2058 8mb board,a3640 68040 and a 1.3gb external scsi hdd. It worked for a while this morning and now it wont get past the dark grey screen. I reseated the chips and after a while it worked once, but every time i reset i wont go again. Also i turned off the HDD and cant get it to the KS screen... Has anyone had these troubles before??

I've taken the card out a couple of times now and resecured it. I haven't taken out the cpu yet though. I've only made sure it was tight.

It has to be something with that a3640 board. i just gave it a bit of a wriggle again and then it started... i haven't turned it off though. Whoever had it before me bridged 2 pieces of wire from r120 to a point on the board near the "fat buster chip". Any idea what it does? I think i will take out the MB shortly and clean it with contact cleaner because the board is caked with dust that wont clean off with compressed air. Is that too harsh?

The battery area seems ok... I gave the mb a hose out with contact cleaner and left for an hour. Put everything toghether and away it went. Ran it (lots of reboots, switched off etc) for 4 hours and no problems. Turned it off for an hour and went to boot it up and presto... no work again

Examine PLCC sockets for cracks, fix with cable ties around the socket's perimeter. (a better option would be to solder in a new socket.)

I think the cpu may be overheating, going to put a fan on shortly. Also it seems to crap on booting from HDD, push 2 mouse buttons on boot get to the diag screen, choose boot from hdd and then freeze. reboot same process again, Freeze. Always on the third attempt it will let me choose boot device and then boot ..
