"Another World 2" and "Flashback 2" on PSP
Last year I found out about Heart of the Alien - the true successor to "Another World". In this game you control Buddy - your Alien friend from Another World. Lester, AW's hero, is a NPC in this game.
This game was only released on Sega Mega CD and can be played at full speed using notaz's great Picodrive-port for PSP. I never got to play Flashback's (very different) successor on the PC - Fade to Black. I found out there also was a PS1-version of it. The only difference between these versions is that the PC-version has simple gouraud-shading without textures while the PS1-version has (ugly) textures. This game can be played perfectly emulated on PSP using Sony's PS1-emulator. It even has been released in PSN so you could buy this game even if you have no custom firmware on your PSP. But for "Heart of the Alien" you definitely need custom firmware. Eric Chahi also made Heart of Darkness for PS1. It's similar to Another World and has good graphics and gameplay. This can also be played fullspeed on PSP. P.S. Of course you can also play "Another World" and "Flashback" on PSP (through various emulators). |

I played both games and they can't match with the originals. While Heart of the Alien was a sequel with new levels and quite the same graphics, Fade to Black was a big disappointment One of the worst 3D sequels ever made IMHO. Had not much to do with Flashback and the graphics really hurt the eye
I really think about getting a PSP one day, since I saw one some months ago. Really a neat portable console |

Sad to read "Fade to Black" is crap. I guess I'll try to beat it anyway - just for the sake of completion.
If you like playing old games everywhere I can definitely recommend the PSP (it doesn't have many great games specifically designed for it as the DS). I've just read that there also was a port of Shadow of the Beast II for Sega Mega CD with enhanced gfx, FMV and digitized speech - but sadly also different music. Did someone try this version? |

I will have a look this evening. Didn't noticed this yet, but didn't had a longer run on the MegaCD version. I don't think that it has FMV though. Maybe I really need to take a longer look

What do you think of Flashback on gba Damian?
It's likely unfinished i know but what happened to the exquisite graphic style and seemingly intelligent AI - just seen some dude die as a result of his mate shooting five or so rounds into him, obviously while aiming at me. So yeah looks quite unfinished and sports out of place cartoon look plus hideous music, but i'll still likely play it.Maybe it's better than i think |

I never got into Fade to Black, even I got it as soon as it was released on PC.
Same with Hearth of the Alien, which I never played more then couple of minutes. |

If you have to decide play Heart of the Alien It's quite fun to play if you like Another World. I wish I could say that about Fade to Black too

It isn't Another World or Flashback but a similar game I like even more is Bermuda Syndrome
Unfortunately, the game was a failure and never got a sequel |

I enjoyed Fade To Black actually. Of course it has nothing to do with Flashback, but why compare a 3D game to a 2D platformer anyway? Like always the relationship to Flashback was only used to sell the game.
The only crap things about the game are that you cannot save in the middle of a level and the levels themselves are not that interesting. Like all third person 3D games the camera sucks, so I am not even going to count that. The graphics at the time were not that bad even in their simplicity, only you needed a very expensive gfx card and processor to be able to play it in svga. I don't know what you people are complaining about here, it is a decent game that has quite good gameplay. Pick on a game that really is crap. |

The controls and interface aren't good too IMHO. It's not a totally crap game, but like you said it's not 'Flashback 2' and there are many better games to play (again IMHO ). Anyway of course the best way to find it out is to play the game by yourself and decide. I wonder if you can get it to work under DosBox properly.
