AD&D Games: Savedisk .adf

Hi folks,

Can anyone help me locate working savedisk.adfs for the SSI/AD&D games?

In particular i'm after Pool Of Radiance,Champions of Krynn,Secret Of The Silver Blades etc. I've seen references to them being on 'The Zone' but that was a long time ago it seems. If anyone can help I'll love you long time....

*Just a factoid...Pool Of Radiance title music was/is class*

the saves were usually stored in one of the game disks, even if i'm not so sure about all the gold box serie. and they were often similar in format, but of course different also in size from game to game, so that you had to import/export characters with the built in extractor in each game.

the savegame you have heard mention was prolly a compilation of saves wich you had to extract and mpove to the game directory. it would have likely contained some upped character for each game. so not much useful.
i suggest you to start the first one of the serie, and if you are in dire need of cheat, to hex edit the characters by yourself, so to have strong dudes but customized to your like. you can easily find the instruction or even some editors on aminet or google, at least i used to.

the zone is a volatile storeroom for files, so the file is long gone, but someone may have it.

The games require an additional savedisk and i think it must be named "save" under workbench. You can create an empty disk and use it.

There is an easy cheat that works with all these games. You can import the same character multiple times and transfer their inventory and gold to other characters. This way you can multiply a dragonlance, get unlimited gold etc. There are other cheats for specific goldbox games if you're wondering.

I think the save disks used to be a derivative of whichever goldbox game it was eg:Poolsave for P. of Radience, if my fuzzy braincells recall correctly.
They usually left a pre-rolled party as a save game on the data disk-at least for the likes of Pools, & Curse of the Azure Bonds & co. that were in a large Gold Box collection I played years ago.
Although I only tend to recall more so a couple of his C64 musical works, I think Wally Beben possibly did P.O.R. musical tunelets on the Amiga-although they mightn't be all time classics, they were nice tunelets all the same.

Thanks for the replies folks, I've figured that Pool Of Radiance requires a blank floppy with the volume name: POOLSAVE in order to save chars which I've made now...but i'm a little less sure about Secret Of The Silver Blades etc.Anyone have any ideas on the volume names for any of the other savedisks ?

Thanks in advanvce

The game should request the save disk when you attempt to load and display the desired disk name since all goldbox games are os friendly.

Pool of Radiance - save game

Hello,

I'm trying to get back into the great POR games again, but I'm having trouble saving a character to a save game disk. It asks to insert 'POOLSAVE' disk. I have read up through several posts on how to do this, but i was unsuccessful in finding a solution that worked.

I am using WinUAE, ver 1.4.6. Going off the suggestions of other posters, I have tried creating 'Standard Disk' and naming it both 'POOLSAVE' and 'save'. And I have tried creating 'Custom Disk' and saving it with the same names. But i couldn't get any of these to work.

None of the disks are write protected, i made sure.

I am new, so i don't have access to the Zone yet.

Please help,

thanks!

Pool of Radiance Save disk!

I too need a save disk to get to playing POR. Didn't find one in the Zone, only some 15 other files. Do the older ones vanish? Is that what the "days to live" -or something- mean?

Anyway, can some1 help me & upload the save disk, please?

Hi Hamu,

1. Welcome to the EAB
2. Yep, that's exactly what days to live means
3. Uploaded my savedisk to the zone

I hope it works for you. If you use WinUAE you should consider using savestates instead.

You need a savedisk to begin with, whether you use savestates afterwards or not.

Thumbs up

DUDE! That was some swift work! That seems to have done the trick too, so thanks a lot

I've only just installed WinUAE, so that I could complete Phantasie III, which I never managed as a kid (childhood trauma now erased ) and savestates didn't work in that (game kept crashing), so I'm a bit hesitant about them. Guess I'll have to give it a go and see if it works on POR.

Thanks again, its soooo frustrating trying to find something over the net for hours!

Hello all!

I am reliving my distant youth about 24 years later! I have the same problem with POOLSAVE that is mentioned above. Creating a disk named POOLSAVE or poolsave does not work. If someone would again be so kind as to post POOLSAVE to the zone, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks for your collective time and efforts at preserving these games! I look forward with great joy to replaying all the AD&D series!

Thanks,
JimBass
