Using a PCMCIA card-reader with ClassicWB
Hi
I have a Sandisk Pc-Card multi reader, which some folks on this board have been able to use with the Amiga. After boot, I opened directory Storage/DosDrivers & clicked CF0. When I try to access CF0: using Dopus, I get a "disk not present" requester. Am I doing things right? anything I have to change/activate/install before attempting to mount? The MMC I'm trying to mount is 1GB formatted as FAT32. Thanx! |

The different slots of the multi-reader probably appear as different units or different LUNs. So you might have to clone CF0 as many times as the reader has slots and add a tooltype to each copy like UNIT=1, UNIT=2 and so on. If the reader uses LUNs instead of units, you need to use UNIT=10, UNIT=20 and so on.
You should be able to use HDToolbox or FindDevice to find out the correct numbers to use. |

Hi
When I connect this reader to my laptop, only one drive appears. It also has only 1 port, you cant insert more than 1 card. |

Pretty sure it needs to be FAT16 or Just called FAT on Windows XP
My CF cards are formatted FAT although I use CWB I have the easy ADF software from Amigakit and that installed all the drivers for me, as soon as I plug in the CF card it mounts and I get an icon just like inserting a CD or Floppy. Hope that helps. Steve. |

Hi
I tried with FAT(16) as well, same results. If I use "unit=0" I get the "No Disk Present" requester when trying to access CF0: from shell. If I use another unit number (I tried 1-3 & 10,20) I get: "CF0:: bad number". Last edited by UberFreak; 22 January 2010 at 14:05. |

Try
diskchange cf0: in a shell window. FAT32 will certainly work. Otherwise you wouldn't be able to access 500GB external harddrives with an Amiga. |

Just tried it, still "no disk present"
I'll try to find a another SD card to try with, although this one works fine with this same adapter in my laptop. |

If you get it working remember you can move the CF0.info from storage/dosdrivers to devs/dosdrivers for automounting on every boot.

Ok, I've now tried 5 different SD cards (from Lexar & SanDisk) without success.
Looks like I'll have to find another way of transferring files to the A1200 |

You need cfd.lha and fat95.lha from Aminet. I formatted my SD card as FAT (FAT16) on Windows, I don't know if you need to do that, but I did.

Don't you have to create a mountlist for CF0: that has the details of the FAT95 filesystem?
I've never used a CF0: device so I've never looked into it, but usually with every device you need an entry in the mount list. Look at the readme files for CF0: and FAT95 under the top menubar Help->Other then look in the Devs drawer. Ask someone above to check their Devs/Mountlist files and place the same text in yours. I can add it to the ClassicWB packs as standard if it's a universal setup. Last edited by Bloodwych; 23 January 2010 at 10:37. |

@Bloodwych:
In file CF0 (pointed to by CF0.info) there's a line that points to l:fat95 , so I guess its ok. Also, in the list of mounted devices, CF0 appears with compactflash.device and status "No Disk". CFD readme says the following: "Copy cfd/devs/compactflash.device to DEVS: Have fat95 installed on your system. Mount the drive by double-clicking cfd/devs/CF0." |

Today I tried this card reader in my A600, which has the ClassicWB GAAE installed.
I installed CFD & fat95, and attempted to mount CF0. I get the exact same behavior as in the A1200, with one difference - the system becomes very slow! Still, CF0 shows as mounted with compactflash.device & fat95 filesystem, but status is "no disk present". I'm out of ideas to try & really dont feel like buying another card reader |

Its a SanDisk 6-in-1, I only needed it for SD & SD-HC.
Been using it with my laptop for about a year now, it never had problems reading any SD card I threw at it. It has the following logos on it: SD, SD-HC,MMC,XD,SmartMedia,Memory-Stick,Memory-Stick Pro |

How are you supposed to connect MMC, XD, SM and MS if it has only one slot ? They are all mechanically different.

I'm thinking this card reader isn't compatible with the amiga.
You can get a cheap CF one here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWAX:IT CF cards are again cheap, you'll get a 64/128 or even 256mb for £1-2 Steve. |
