well i am not sure what are the rewuirements for Scalos, and MUI uses probably kickstart 3.0. it's a lot i don't instal them by myself. you could check on the fantastic Paul' guide here to install and customize the workbenches. as you ask about install ClassicWB to a real machine, i can assume you have the means to import files there and an hard disk. so i would suggest to copy thestuff you would like the most, among the one that you know it works on the chosen kickstart, chipset and CPU from ClassicWB to that HD. stuff like many libraries, updated commands, devices and programs with their icons. but most of that would not work on 1.3, for instance the killer application of ClassicWB, Whdload, requires at least a 2.0 and 1MB ram, and even so, you could not play aga games.
bottom line: just do yourself a custom workbench, it's easier and more stable in this case then an half assed copy over. |

I run classicWB adv on my A3000. It runs flawlessly. I'm sure CWb lite will run on your non expanded a600, but it needs 3.1 roms.

I’ve been asked this before and I’m afraid ClassicWB requires at least 3.0 ROMS and an 020 to run Scalos, certain programs and libraries. It will run on ECS chipsets, but not many people have ECS, 020+, 3.0 machines.
In order to do a 68000 and 2.0 version, you’d have to start from scratch as marco says and use the ClassicWB packages as examples of what to install. You can do a quick test – boot the ClassicWB Lite (in WinUAE) with an A600 configuration and see what works (and what doesn’t). The FULL onwards will fail because Scalos will not run on 68000 and 2.0 roms. Then, again using WinUAE, you can install a default Workbench 2.0 onto a HDF (hard disk file). Boot up the Classicwb LITE (using an A1200 config) with the Workbench 2.0 HDF mounted and copy across what you require. The icon “.info” files can be copied over fairly quickly in Dopus, saving loads of time; any programs that worked with the A600 config can now be copied across too. If something doesn’t work, then go on Aminet and download the required packages, libraries and files as you’ll need 68000 versions where appropriate. |

Ok, I've just taken on the mission to build a 68000 compatible ClassicWB based on ClassicWB lite. With my quick WinUAE experiments, I found out that only DirOpus and JanoEditor refuses to work. I replaced dopus with DiskMaster2, and currently looking for a replacement for janoeditor. Actually, I don't know what keeps Jano from working ? There aren't any compiled versions for different systems.
And moreHTML. do not work as well. Looking to it ... |

older versions of diropus worked magic on my A500, you have to check the config files for that too.
also a good substitute for the menu thing is Mymenu, that requires the old command loadwb and not its newer substitute (don't remember the newer name), then mymenu and a little wait before endcli [edit] Diropus ver. 2.03 works perfectly here on Winuae A500 quick config. frrom the custom workbench disk i made in the day: it goes fullscreen differently from the newer versions, but that aside is ok. a good hex editor you may add to the setup is HEX by Nicola Salmoria. ClassicWB lite already comes with toolsdaemon so I think it's adequate ? I'm considering nano as the text editor replacement.

Does retrogamer EVER reply once he's posted his demands?
Would be nice to see at least ONCE. (If anyone has proof of this happening please post it here) |
