A600 - xu1

Just noticed this unpopulated area on rev. 1.x A600 motherboards. It's silkscreened for a tiny DIP chip. Anyone know what its intended purpose was?

The early Gayle chips marked with -01 had bugs and needed the PAL to patch them.
