Evil grin A cracking challenge for MethodGit

I am proposing a cracking challenge for MethodGit. I have obtained a version of a game that has not been cracked and spread. Slightly different versions of it have, but I want to see if MethodGit can crack this specific copy cleanly.

Details:
  • I will provide a complete WWarp disk image of the game.
  • The game is protected with Rob Northen copylock.
  • For experienced crackers, I would rate the difficulty as perhaps 2 out of 10. It is not hard.
Some conditions:
  • I want YOU to crack the game yourself. That means you can't ask others on here, lemonamiga, flashtro etc for how information on how to crack it.
  • You must not include a different version of the crack. I will disassemble your crack to see if you have incbin'd another version.
  • You can use whatever tools you like, but cannot simply freeze memory and save it with Action Replay etc. That's freezing, not cracking.
  • You must provide source code/notes of how you cracked it.
  • The ultimate crack would be you providing a single file (including source) that loads the original game, deprotects it, and starts it up.
Do you accept the challenge?

My motto is

"Spend less time cracking games and more time playing them"

I'm not into cracking and am too busy with my own projects, otherwise I'd be tempted too

I will give MethodGit some time to accept the challenge, but if he doesn't and anybody else wants a go, you are all welcome to try. I would like him to attempt it by himself first though! I might even put all the relevant files together on my website once MethodGit has done it.

The beauty of this one is that until you crack it, you can't really tell what game it is! So it's a fair bit harder to cheat by copying another version.

I will re-iterate that it's not a difficult crack, but I had to locate a game that hasn't been spread all over the place and this is the first one I found.

As someone who has used Resource quite a kot and knows 68k reasonably well - but has NEVER cracked a game - would I be able to crack this, or is it too hard?

Codetapper rates it a 2/10 on difficulty, so I would say it is not too difficult

Allow me to express my interest in giving this a go if MethodGit declines. Cracking Amiga software huh. That is going to be a new and prehaps overdue expirience for me. Still, I'm sure all the fundamentals are within my grasp and probably explained in explicit and painful detail in this very forum. Please PM me with the details.

I would also be interested in giving it a go if MethodGit declines the challenge.

I've never cracked anything, but it's always been a fascination of mine how they do it!

I'll upload it for others after MethodGit has taken a stab at it.

My rating of 2/10 assumes some copylock knowledge. If you don't know anything about copylocks, the difficulty will be a lot higher! I would advise anyone that wants to try an easy one to have a go at MicroProse Soccer to begin with. I'd rate that a 1/10 difficulty as you don't really have to understand how they work to crack that game.

I'm going to assume that there is a history between you guys, because judging only by the PM3D thread I don't believe that MethodGit did anything serious enough to deserve that kind of bullying. So he's not the best coder in the world, does this justify creating a thread with the sole purpose of ridiculing him?

Bloody hell, this forum is becoming like Jerry Springer!. Are some of getting so old and bitter that we need to resort to such pettiness?

Moderation is slipping big time. To much trolling is now allowed, its like a.org over here now. Its even worse a "Moderator" is doing the trolling.

Sad but very true.
