Karateka
Has anybody seen this game on the Amiga it was programmed by the same person that wrote Prince Of Persia

I don't recall any Amiga port of this game, however I could be wrong
![]() As for the author, I think they were both coded by Jordan Mechner (sp?) if memory serves me, which it sometimes does not ![]() |

Yes I do remember that one TG but I loved how Karateka moved on my C64. I also dug the music too

Karateka always looked to have the makings of a great C64 game, but the collision detection sucked IMO. Could never make it past those damm first few guards without being wiped out of energy.
My kingdom for a trained D64 version!! I want to see that damm shogun evil guy who's too chicken to take you on! |

Just a note about the C64 version:
Programmers did several copyprotections on this game which crackers didn't find at first. One was the always replenishing energy on the copy, which didn't happen on the original. Another one was a door on a higher level, which couldn't be passed on the copy. I have heard there are 5 or 6 of these protections. But now, there is a 100% crack from Remember which you can play ![]() |

I remember buying this game when it first came out, and it was widely thought to be one of the best games available at the time, based on reviews. I've seen mention here of the C64 version, but I thought I'd point out that the original version that Mechner wrote was done on the Apple II, so the C64 version was a port of that. I know the Apple II version is available in emulator format, and I suspect that the C64 version is as well. I've never seen or heard of the ST version before now, but if it ever is converted to work on the Amiga, I'd also be interested in getting a copy.

![]() ![]() I seem to recall that Broderbund made their start with the Apple II and then slowly got into other 8-bit machines like the Atari and C64. I think one of their other very popular titles was Raid on Bungling Bay and of course Lode Runner. |

Funny that you should mention Lode Runner. That was the most addictive game I ever played on the Apple II, and the object of the worst obsessive episode I ever had with any game.
Great gameplay, 150 levels altogether, an extra man awarded on completing each level ... and no save game? After I'd played it quite a lot I decided I simply HAD to get through all 150 levels, and was curious as to what might happen upon completing the last one. I got up early one Saturday morning and began playing virtually non-stop all day. About 3 a.m. or so I still had about 10 or 15 levels to go, but I couldn't hold my eyes open any longer. Since there was no save game I left my Apple turned on and went to bed, figuring I'd get up rested and go finish the game. I got up on Sunday morning to find the digital clock beside the bed blinking. While I had slept, a brief power outage had hit and the Apple had rebooted. The game demo was running merrily, much in the same way that I was NOT. I was so ticked off that I started all over again and played continuously until I finally finished. I was dead tired at work on Monday, BUT at least I knew what happened upon completing level 150. Trust me, the result is a bit anti-climactic to say the least. ![]() |
