Running two emulations at the same time -> very slow

Hello,

I have recently purchased Amiga Forever Premium Edition version 8.3.7.0 and while most things are working fine, I do have a problem when trying to run multiple emulation windows.

What happens as soon as a second emulation is started, the Amiga Forever UI becomes very unresponsive taking multiple seconds to register clicks or window drags. In the emulation itself, the mouse will be extremely laggy. It becomes very difficult to close the second window but once you do, everything goes back to normal.
I'm using the following system:
  • Ryzen 7 3800X
  • NVIDIA GTX 1070
  • 32GB RAM
I did test on a laptop with an Intel 10th-gen i5 and it works fine with multiple emulation windows open. Also using WinFellow instead of WinUAE works fine, maybe this is a WinUAE bug? I'm not sure.

Also, I've tried disabling all other running software, updating graphics drivers, disabling SMT in the BIOS, assigning CPU affinity and nothing has helped so far on my machine.
If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them. Thank you.

Just finished booting in safe mode and still the same issue.

Also, I didn't mention in my post that I have also try every combination of options in the Amiga Forever emulation settings such as DX9, DDraw, etc. I'm at a complete loss here as to what is going on.

radiojoystick: AF does a bunch of funky stuff in order to put its own UI on WinUAE, and it's not very optimized, either. You'd be much better off running WinUAE directly if you're going to run multiple emulation sessions side by side, instead of using the Amiga Forever launcher.

Sounds to me you have priority settings set too high, there is an option to turn them down.

I frequently run 2 copies of WinUAE, and my laptop is laughably shit in comparison to your machine.

Also try disabling sound in one or both instances and see what happens.

I don't see how to disable sound in Amiga Forever, however, I can run multiple instances of WinUAE without issue. It must be something about the way Amiga Forever is running WinUAE.

A quick note.

On the laptop mentioned in my first post, two windows is okay unless I connect to an external display, then I see the same performance issues as on my desktop computer. It's very strange.

I'm really starting to think it's display or video driver related. On the laptop, if I use the external display, I have an issue. On the desktop, if I have one window full screen, the second is fine, however, if both windows are in windowed mode, then I have the issue. I've just learned to use full screen for one if needed.
