Son Shu Shi - Level 2 Boss

I have been playing Son Shu Shi for a while and got stuck in level 2.
It is a scrolling shoot-em-up stage in which the hero blasts his way to the exit on the far right of the level.

However, here a big brown end-of-level boss on jelly legs is blocking the path and throwing rocks at me. No matter how often I fire bullets at him, he won't crumble. Does anyone know the solution for this problem?

There's a bit on the aGTW site about the difficulty:

Most players will be struck by how difficult it is to play. However, much depends on how the game is approached. If the player rushes through each level then the default weapon quickly proves to be underpowered. Each level should be thoroughly explored to discover hidden rooms (shooting likely locations will reveal the doors) and all the gold pieces collected. Buy weapon upgrades at the shops and remember that two of the bosses require special weapons to defeat. The ice boss can only be defeated by the Heart of the Dragon weapon and the final boss by the Trident of Neptune. As these weapons cost plenty the only way to progress is to collect lots of coins.

I can't remember exactly how to defeat this boss - you might have to either shoot the legs or have a special or more powerful weapon.

you must shot it for a long time

I think you have to shoot the legs first. The shop offers a clue as well.
