How to setup SAMBA on my Amiga 500?

I have already configured Black Armor NAS 440

and it is SMB 1.0. My laptop can see it and transfer files. I downloaded the latest smfs or whatever it is called for the Amiga but I do not know how to have my A500 talk to it and make an ICON appear in my disk drive where when I double click it I can access the server just like Windows network icon drive?

Can someone help me on this? Thanks in advance!

I use this script for my NAS:

Code:
stack 65536
smbfs workgroup=workgroup service=//nas/share1 user=admin password=123456 device=nas: volume=nas1:
make a project icon and add c:iconx in the "Default tool"

One final question I promise.

In my Windows I have this in network group setup

\\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\Home-Public where xxx equals IP address.

I have my laptop called LaptopHome when you click This PC and view properties

How do I take these information I type now for you to convert it to what you typed above?

Thanks in advance!

I just wanted to say...THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

You have literally opened a door for the best TRANSFER DATA BETWEEN PC/AMIGA and at the same time have given my Amiga 2 TB of hard drive space IN ADDITIONAL TO MY 230 GB AND 32 GB respectively!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

Now I can put GB worth of movies into the server and can just watch them directly in my Amiga from the server!!

I can put large games there and easily transfer them back and forth

I do not even need a dvd player anymore or even SD or USB anymore!

If I am upstairs I can download new amiga games into the server and poof bang my a500 downstairs can see it directly in the fly!! I do not need to keep moving things up and down physically!

THANKS A HUGE CHUNK!!

I have a similar set up at home with my A3000's and my NAS and it does work well.

What version of Samba for the Amiga and Amiga SMBFS are you using? I'd really recommend you get the latest versions.

The latest versions I have found are 2.2.5 for Amiga Samba, and 2.1 for SMBFS.

I've found that transfers between Amiga and the NAS works really well if under a few MB's at a time. Over a few MB's at a time and things get strange. Transfer rates will drop, and eventually misleading errors will start popping up. I found this out when I tried backing up my Amiga filesystems to my NAS. But you mileage may vary.

Oh, is your NAS formatted NTFS or exFAT? Mine came exFAT and ended up having to format it as NTFS for things to work okay.

Thank you! I am using SMBFS 2.1 on my Amiga 500 and it works great!

To answer your question: My transfer rate is less than MB so do not worry about that.

It is formatted as NTFS!

I am going to see if I can put this in SS in quiet mode so that every time I boot my Amiga it automatically mounts the drive as if it is part of the Amiga hard drive partition! I am backing now 11 GB worth of my important data into the server.

In the meantime...I am burning all my movies into dvd so I can watch my dvd movies into my A500 via the dvd player!

As well as programming my game in my A500!

BY THE WAY...MY A500 is in it's beautiful keyboard case too..not towered AHAHAHAH!

My dvd burner and mechanical 230 GB are also external hooked into my a500

my 32 GB is a compact flash which hold the OS

To answer your question: My transfer rate is less than a MB so I am not worried.

It is formatted as NTFS!
