I wanted to note that the Auto Update feature crashes FS-USE while it is using unzip to unarchive the files. The RTG binary completes and it runs but the AGA version doesn't get updated. A few files in /Resources such as cookies get updated but nothing else. I've sent a bug report to Arti with a request to post the complete binary distribution as he has done in the past.

I have 3.10 (Dev CI #5158) built on May 24, and auto update isn't kicking in -- in fact, NetSurf won't even open any pages other than the built-in welcome page. Could we still get a proper download, please?

He probably refused the update and automatically disabled the update service.
To restore the update service, go to the options and tick it, see screensoht Last edited by AMIGASYSTEM; 23 September 2020 at 16:53. |

I updated my version of unzip but it didn't make a difference. FS-UAE crashes after unzipping the RTG binary and /Resources/cookies and /Resources/Options. I suppose it is possible that is the full extent of the update. The RTG binary runs and likely doesn't require updates to other files but I'd like to check the distribution anyway just to make sure. The June 24 2020 binary is certainly more stable than the September 2019 binary. Arti is making good progress. |

Ok - you're not running the version of Netsurf we're discussing. You're running the official build coded by the developer, Chris Young, with whom I've had many discussions. I don't use it because it doesn't run more than a few seconds in WinUAE or FS-UAE, an issue Chris is aware of but cannot address at the present time.
Do this. Go to the "ami-soft" address noted above, and download and install Arti's Netsurf 3.9. Run it. You will immediately be presented by the Auto Update dialogue. |

I should have checked RAM:T for the archive. Instead I checked the existing Netsurf folder. My bad. Last edited by Weaselrama; 26 August 2020 at 19:29. Reason: add info |

@Weaselrama, @AMIGASYSTEM: Thanks, guys! Now I have a more up to date, and more importantly, _functional_ NetSurf.

It really is. I always look forward to Arti's builds for OS3. They just keep getting better and better and I think one day very soon he'll build a version that is as stable as the iBrowse 2.5.x series.

General question on Netsurf for OS3.5/9 with Reaction
Since Amiga OS 3.2 integrates Reaction in it, will Netsurf run under 3.2? |

Apparently Chris is looking into it and hoping it fixes some of the reaction bugs that cause netsurf instability.

Speaking of Arti's build, does the mouse pointer lock up for everyone when using Arti's build under OS 3.2 while Netsurf is fetching a page?

Yes but it is a momentary block of a few seconds, open the site and the mouse works fine, this also happens with OS 3.9.

Hi:
I would like to know about how to use NetSurf from the command line (a script in my case), just to download a file from a https site. It downloads the file from the site with NetSurf (and it seems to be the only way), but I get NetSurf starting and then closing (it does the job though), so it would be better to download it without having it opening and closing its own screen. I didn't find any info about using NetSurf from the shell to make such kind of things. |

Thats because Arti's fork is based framebuffer build, wich is meant to be used with "no gui" systems and debuggin. It is never meant to be used with a gui and as a desktop app.

NetSurf by Arti can do the download from Shell, only problem is that the download will start after loading the GUI .
As mentioned on another post, if you need to download files from Aminet or similar, you can use, Wget, WallGet or AGet. |
