Classic WB P96 + OS3.9 Howto?
Hi, anyone got a walkthrough for the combination of CWB P96 and OS3.9?

You're better off starting with the ClassicWB OS39 and installing P96.
First however, go to the Settings menu and disable FBlit and Copper. They are not required for a P96 setup and may in fact stop it from working. That will give you a starting point to work from. Then the tweaking begins, but I'm out of practice. I did the P96 pack a few years back now and would have to go back into it in detail to remember all the little tweaks I made. |

And I can confirm it works as I have done it myself, I've also used the P96 pack on my real Amiga and stick with that version becuase its much faster than the OS3.9 version and I prefer the menu layout. |

Ok, I've already got a working CWB OS3.9 image so I'll stick with that and add on Picasso 96.
What would be the best version of Scalos to install on top of CWB OS39? I tried the latest v47.1, but it really doesn't seem to work very well (preferences tool won't load, for example). |

Got a working (Winuae tested so far) CWB 39 + Picasso 96 setup. I'm now going to try adding Scalos - though I'm not sure which version to go for.

I've only ever used the non-beta Scalos - 1.2d.
I tried the other versions, but they seem aimed at powerful RTG Amiga's, plus they have a new config system for many things I setup in the ClassicWB packs and I struggled to get things working well. |

Well I've got it working now and transferred it to my CF card ready for use in the Amiga.
Just on doing a restore of the games partition from a backup. I haven't overly tweaked it, here's the full install sequence I did: Install Workbench 3.1 from floppy images (SFS Partitioning and Format steps inserted here) Install OS 3.9 from mounted CD Install Boingbag 1, Boingbag 2 overlays Classic Workbench OS 3.9 standard installation *Install and add "C:CMQ030" and "C:CPU burst" to S:startup-sequence *Removal from WBStartup: Tinymeter, Magic Menu, Toolprefs, Amidock *Re-install OS 3.9 TCP/IP Stack + Internet Tools Picasso 96 2.1c MUI 3.8 Scalos v47.1 (Install of several later MUI classes required by Scalos; all are listed when attempting to run Scalos Prefs tool) I finally booted from another, known-good, working Winuae image with the above image as a second disk, and the target Amiga CF disk as a third disk. Copy the CWB OS39 + P96 + Scalos system drive to the CF disk using your chosen tools (dopus is fine). Replace the hard files in Winuae with the CF drive and it should boot fine (some minor tweaking of startup-sequence may be necessary depending on, for example, different volume names, etc.) I'll try and attach a pic once the data restore is done, but it's just standard OS 3.9 looks with Picasso 96 and Scalos really. * Optional steps - my physical hardware includes a 68030 accelerator (hence CMQ030 and the cpu tweak), and I wanted Genesis for the TCP/IP stack to use my ethernet card. The removal of the startup items is personal preference and to stop duplication of functionality with Scalos. |

Well done! I bet you'll spend ages tweaking that setup to your hearts content and let me know what you think of Scalos v47.1. Just had a look at the website and realised it's been back in development again - last time I tried the latest beta was about 2006, or perhaps even earlier!!!

Thanks, here's a snap of the desktop:
Pretty plain for now. I want to see what it runs like on my A1200 030 once I fit my recently acquired Mediator PCI board and Radeon graphics card... I don't want it to get too resource heavy as it's primarily for games. |

I used to really like the asynchronous nature of Scalos over OS3.9 but today is it really the best option? Are there other, better asynchronous workbench patches?
What else does Scalos bring to the party? |

Don't use popupmenu.library from Scalos, it's buggy:

Thanks, I'll look at (back)dating that library.
