CF HD not booting
I've installed a CF 4gb HD into my A1200. Through winuae it boots just fine, but in my Amiga it won't boot, I just get the kickstart screen. I can get it to boot by holding down both mouse buttons when I turn it on and choosing to boot CF0, but I can't get it to autoboot. Any ideas why this might be?

Are you using 3.0 roms by any chance?
An upgrade to 3.1 will increase the delay for HDDs to be detected, this might be the problem. Steve. |

Thanks guys, I think it must be the 3.0 quick boot issue, as it boots fine after a warm restart.
Quite like it this way now, I get the cool retro kickstart screen when it turns on and just need to restart to boot WB |

I recently re tested some CF cards that I couldn't get to work in my old A1200 (had 3.0 roms) they work fine in my A1200/A600 that I have now with 3.1 roms.
If the OP is happy to reboot cool, if not then upgrading the roms is probably a good idea in the long term. Steve. |

cf card should not need a delay before it is detected

Well I'm not sure what the cause was but I bought 2 x 2gb Verbatim cards (they were cheap clerance items) and they would not even be detected in my A1200 with 3.0 Roms but tested them since with 3.1 roms and they work well =)
Same Mobo, only difference is the Roms. Steve. |

if it was the delay in the rom or lack off then soft resting would allow them to boot
its nice when an upgrade has unexpected side effects, could be something else in roms apart from bootup delay but as to what I don`t know, but glad they work for you now fitzsteve |

I've got a similar problem (detailed in a similar thread).
I upgraded my roms to 3.1 as suggested and found no difference, if anything it now takes slightly longer to boot the CF card after holding both mouse buttons and then choosing boot. Until I get round to replacing my A1200's keyboard I can't do a soft reboot using CTRL-A-A as one of the Amiga keys isn't working. I'm planning to copy off the System partition of the CF card to my PC harddrive as a backup and replace it with my WinUAE install to see if that makes any difference. Other than that, how do I check whether the partition is marked for boot? Thanks Gareth |

Hi Thomas,
The reason I was going to test this method was the card did boot when I first got it (it was pre-installed with OS3.0). It only stopped auto-booting after I'd started copying some data from old floppy disks to it. I've since removed a good chunk of data because it was suggested to me that the volume of data on the drive might be stopping it auto-booting. Thanks Gareth |
