Sorry for not replying sooner - a 9 week old son means that I can't really chose when I get time to sit down and hack about with graphics.

I've been persevering with GFXRip, but after reading chrisr's post, I'll give the Action Replay method a try. Unfortunately I missed my chance to grab it from the Zone - can anyone repost it please?

BTW I have found a fairly easy way to get all the tiles I need, but unfortunately I doubt they'd be valid to submit to the sprite restoration project.... I found a level editor for the PC version, so constructed a level that contains all the tiles in sequence, then just ripped them from DOSbox.

I found the right pallette!:
Pall-624
Mode-ST
ORDER N-76053210.

I pressed L once then experemented with the keys 1-4.
The attached image has not been re-coloured at all,it came straight from gfx rip.

Edit: the tiles are stored in 4 bitplanes with 5 bitplane sprites between them.

The garbage is the 5 bitplane enemy sprites,it does get a bit messy but at least it`s possible to rip them now without mucking about with re-colouring the rips.

The level 1 boss is made up of 4 bitplane tiles and 5 bitplane sprites.

This is as far as I have got with level one. This takes a lot of editing and tidying up.
Still got a long way to go.
Edid:Here`s the font.
Edit:removed shitty sprite sheets.

better late then never

attached is everything from level 1 excluding the hud, which you can rip from a screenshot, but all the fonts, player, bonuses, explosions, weapons, add ons, enemies, tiles and animated tiles and the boss as a tileset with all animation tiles

enjoy

here is an update of the sheet, now including level 2, still 3 levels to rip ...

the enemy for the first part of level 2 consists of many basic tiles, just take screenshots and you can easily rebuild him, the second boss, the spider, i seperated all the needed tiles from the tileset.

more soon
