SoC includes mobile GPU, Pegasos uses Radeon with software API: Mobile GPU does not support OpenGL or Vulkan as previous Macs, emulation authors must put in lots of work to port to Metal (which incidentally doesn't support GLSL, HLSL, or SPIR-V.) Until emulation authors comply with (and hopefully find time to compensate for) Apple's utter lack of support for standards, and Apple (I would never say supports, but) allows them to publish emulators in their Store, your best option might be Intel+GPU emulation under AppleOS to emulate PowerPC with software rendering to likely not an emulated Radeon GPU, but a display buffer.) There is no shade at all on emulation authors for the ARM Mac platform, but Apple having their way makes things difficult for everyone. There's not a large open source codebase for ARM, apart from what Android built, and ARM-Linux in general. It will take time for Apple, even if they have just taken all the free code they could and adapted it. What this means is that emulation authors may have to wait before they can support things like emulated file systems, and if left on their own, they have to write their own. I would appreciate comments from Mac emulation authors. From what I've said, as a left field idea, might FS-UAE under Linux on Mac (must be virtualized on Mac ARM despite ARM-Linux) work if FS-UAE Mac and WinUAE doesn't? |
