Gotek's SELECTOR.ADF replacement
Is anyone aware of any replacement for SELECTOR.ADF? Maybe one with a bit more options or different graphics.
Back in the days any intro or cracktro would have triggered the creativity of the coders and we used to get awesome stuff. I'd expect someting like that for SELECTOR.ADF |

I meant to change the executable file inside SELECTOR.ADF, called SELECTOR and launched from startup-sequence. This is a windows program...

I think most people have flashed the HxC firmware instead. The menu software for that is a lot better.

Really? like what? I got the default settings from AmigaKit, not sure I want to flash something else at this point
besides I consider SELECTOR exe like an intro therefore there might be someone wanting to do something with it |

HxC is a superior and still worked on firmware, which is the most important part. The author of cortex has disappeared and the firmware (and SELECTOR for that matter) hasn't been updated in forever.
It's worth the purchase if you like your gotek device. |

Yeah, the guy left without a trace and his software was not open source, so we're left with whatever he left us.
Unless someone wants to reverse engineer the whole thing, not sure you'll see another selector software. Or perhaps we're lucky and he decides to return and give us the tools to continue! If you look here btw, the "official" thread of the Cortex firmware, you can see discussion about the Cortex fw: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?...cortex&page=33 |

But the old Cortex firmware is great for Amigakit who don't have to pay a single penny for it.
Which was the reasons the author of Cortex disappeared. |

I always think that's a bit of a cop out..
If you don't want people to redistribute it, there are licenses for that.. If you release it for anyone to do anything, and then later say "Oh, but please don't charge for it.." That's not on them, that's on you.. My guess is that it stopped in development because he got bored. He already had it working.. The other stuff is just fluff.. I'm glad he did it. I use it. (I didn't buy it flashed; I did that myself.) But people selling it on e-bay or Amigakit (who is great for the Amiga community to still have around!!) is not a reason for him to stop.. That said, I'm also glad HxC is around, and will probably move to that pretty soon.. (Want to figure out how to do the LCD mod first; not sure about the floppy sound mod..) desiv |
