Has anyone tried one of these converters ?

Hi Fella's ,

Would one of these work converting the video signal from an A1200 to a VGA monitor ?

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....=STRK:MEWAX:IT

I have one of those RGB to VGA adapters , can I connect it straight into one of these and then to my VGA monitor ?

BTW I have a 21" Compaq CRT VGA Monitor 50-60Hz .

Any input would be great

Karl

When you start piggybacking video signals from one adapter to another adapter you will lose signal strength and quality. This adapter you are looking at does accept VGA input, but you will probably lose something in the signal transition

You're right.

Kipper raises a very valid point, why don't you simply get something like a Toastscan, which does cost a fair bit more, but absolutely works?

I have noticed a few people are happy with the combination of an AmigaManiac S-Video adapter and one of these S-Video to VGA converters - http://cgi.ebay.com.au/AV-TV-S-Video...item2a034e3bee

They also work with Composite so you can use it on an A1200 without the S-Video adapter, but it won't be as sharp.

There's also this thing, which was designed with the Amiga in mind and definitely works without any additional adapters in between: http://www.ambery.com/rgbcgatovgac.html

Thanks Anemos , I have seen your thread and wasnt sure if you used this one or similar . Thanks for your honest feedback

Thanks Cammy , I was looking at getting the Amigamanic adapter and a VGA to tv converter as alot of people seem happy with it .

@Kipper , I wasnt too sure that the RGB to VGA adapter would affect too much as people have been using amigamanics adapter with a converter so I assumed the connections would be similar in loss of quality . But maybe the S Video is a better signal than VGA ... Am I getting this right ?

Thanks Paul , Appreciate your input . Do you have a link to the Toaster you were refering to ?

If anyone has one of those Amigamanic adapters I would gladly buy it off you . Nathan over there wont have any for possibly 2 months

My Phillips has Died 2 days ago and im gettin withdrawls

Cammy I have just noticed the second part of your post . I have been looking at this thing for weeks but wasnt sure how good it was . Rkauer said it wouldnt be a problem but no one has actually stepped up and said they used one .

But correct me if im wrong but wouldnt I need the RGB to VGA adapter to connect to this converter ?

Karl

that's as much as the Indivision. I'd just buy the Indivision ECS to be honest. It's a cleaner/tidier solution than having a multitude of wires/boxes hanging outside...

Converting RGB to S-Video, then to VGA, would produce a terrible picture.

Why wouldnt you go straight from RGB to VGA?

The RGB to VGA adapter does nothing to convert the signal for 30hz + VGA monitors .

Anything VGA monitor wise needs to be converted .

Im assuming S-video is a nice clean clear signal but will still not work on VGA due to frequency . Atleast thats how I understand it .

There are lots of standalone 15kHz RGB to 31kHz RGB converters in the world..

http://www.lektropacks.co.uk/view_pr...maxproducts=10

Most of them are not 24bit, however. You must also be very careful to read any included data sheets in order to determine whether they will leave the 50Hz vertical refresh alone, or if they always forcibly convert it to 60Hz.
