Where did the Amiga Hardware go?

I was looking through the various Amiga hardware directory websites and it hit me just how many different pieces of Amiga hardware were made over the years. What I would like to know is... Where did all this stuff go?

I know some of you crazy Amiga owners have 10+ machines, but there aren't that many of us left. It seems like Ebay should be jammed full of Flicker Free videos, A500 SCSI controllers, etc

The simple answer is Landfill. Most people binned their Amiga stuff when they got a PC for the internet revolution.

Between 1997 to 2001 low end (A500 / A2000) Amiga stuff was considered almost worthless.

The local dump has a large container filled to the top with obsolete PC hardware. I think nowadays people over here don't dump the Amigas there, because the second hand marketplace sees plenty of Amiga hardware. But I shudder to think how it looked like a few years back when Amigas were worthless. I should've been there, but just recently picked up where I left off years ago.

I regret throwing out my 1200 and 500 years ago. The picture out of the 1200 had a blue haze over everything so instead of getting it fixed, I binned it. Then, not having a 1200 to play aga stuff, I sold the 500 for £10. Still got all my old games/demos and other hardware though (action replay, vidi-amiga and some audio recording dongle-thingy, can't remember the name). I was thinking of buying a 1200 from amigakit.com. I'm amazed you can still get all this hardware nowadays. I'll see how the money is sitting in a week or 2.

Still can't find the Demo I've been looking for.

gah this thread makes me sad Thankfully though a lot of real Amiga's still live - a testament to it's legacy. You don't see a lot of PC stuff lasting so long and still being used....

Hey Zetr0, thanks for the welcome.

3 posts and I already think this place is great. There's some interesting reading material that I'm going to have a browse through!

I think there is enough amiga equipment to go around these days. Most of the rarities were never made in large numbers anyway so they were rare back in the 90's just like they are now. if you look around long enough, you should be able to get everything you want.

Have to admit i've been guilty of throwing away allot of amiga stuff, from about 1995-'98 I couldnt give most of my Amiga bits away, ive taken 1200's 2000's and coutless 500's and 500+'s down to the local council tip

@ Zetr0: thanks for the welcome (and the fast reply on my question on another thread.) EAB is great!
They won't let you take anything at our dump also. A few months ago I saw some decent hardware and I returned on a busy saturday so I could smuggle some stuff away with me.

I guess throwing stuff away when nobody wants it is okay. I just wish I wanted it back then

OMG 10 lashes to your back

When I dumped my 1200 back in 1999 I gave all this to the local cash convertors;

A1200
Commodore 1084ST
All my beloved games (must've been 50 or so)
Ram/FPU card
External drive

I accepted £40 from them at the time

To this day I cannot forgive myself for letting it all go. At least my 500 got recycled when I exchanged it for the 1200 in 93 or 94 I think...

Now I have more Amiga's than ever so I am happy again but I do miss my original gear

I only I had a time machine
