Most advanced game by year?
Sorry if this has already been done, I was wondering what people thought the most advanced (hardware use, software tricks etc) game by year was, eg:
1985 - Mindshadow? 1986 - Defender of the Crown? 1987 - Backlash, Starglider or S.D.I maybe? 1988 - not sure, but several games must have been using the hardware by now? 1989 - Shadow of the Beast 1990 - Rodland has some interesting tricks going on, or Turrican? 1991 - 1995 ??? |

It's hard to dethrone DotC in 1986. But I think MindWalker was pretty nifty too, with its mix of fast and colorful 3D+sprite open world.

1988 has F/a 18 Interceptor and Starglider II as strong candidates; Elite did show at the end of the year too.
And Carrier Command is another strong one - then not sure if is 1988 or 1989 - Stunt Car Racer! |

1988 Highway Hawks Anco racing game was really smooth
Around 1992 you could probably place Team 17 on the map |

I'd nominate:
1995 - Breathless 1996 - Alien Breed 3D II Maybe not marvels in the traditional Amiga sense, but they were pretty brilliant (or breathless). |

I'm putting up Nebulus for 1988. But that's mostly because I wouldn't know which other games are from 1988 and HOL does't allow you to filter on it That cool and silky smooth tower rotation was a really good trick.

I stand corrected. 583 games!?!?
Surely Carrier Command deserves a nomination. I'll pry through the remainder of the list tomorrow... |

1990 Lotus Turbo Challenge and 1991 Lotus Challenge 2, but especially the hardware use on 1992 Lotus Challenge III was tremendous

Actually, 1988 wasn't a bad year for games... Dungeon Master too, and lots of others I remember |

kremiso - "for the 1988 i would pick Virus"
Amazing game - really forward thinking, but still can't play it very well! I've mapped all the keys onto my 360 controller, but wave 3 still craps on me gimbal - "I'm putting up Nebulus for 1988." Have you seen the C64 version? To this day I look at the tower and wonder how the hell J M Phillips did that...
