Acard 7720U

Hi guys. I bought an Acard 7720U years ago and I never got it working. I dug it out to look at it again and I noticed that I have the 7720U and not the 7720UW. According to the support site here, It's only compatible with ATAPI not ATA hard drives. I didn't notice this before. I was wondering if this could be changed by firmware or other means. Noticed there were some areas on the board where SMD resistors are missing and wonder if thats something they could have done to make the models different. Thanks!

7720U is an awesome device that works just fine. It just needs some correct installations based on ID and Termination (as all SCSI devices require).

I dunno what resistors you see missing but you can check my own from the back if it suits you.

Ok. Thanks. Yours is identical to mine then. I'm going to try a firmware upgrade on it and see where that goes. Thanks!

AFAIK putting the latest firmware update is not so good for the Amiga side.
Others that might have changed the firmware on an ACard can suggest better.

I couldn't get it to recognize anything on one of my Amiga 4000 systems using a Warp Engine 040 card no matter how I set the jumpers for termination, SCSI ID, etc. Figured it was either incompatible or defective until I read recently about firmware upgrade.

I don't know if this helps but you might want to read about my experiment with an ACARD 7720U here. It contains some info about the firmware also. What I have is VER:3.75 and it works for me.

One question here:
I have one IDE harddrive connected to my BPPC with an Acard. Can I add an SCSI cd-rom drive to use with the Acard? I have 7 SCSI-connectors in the SCSI cable but does the Acard prevent using SCSI devices on the same chain? I'm asking this because I now have an IDE cd-rom drive connected to IDEfix but would want to go back using one on the SCSI chain because of the DMA . Any suggestions welcome ...

I'd like to use the 7720U in a tower project and I have a question about the cables to use.

The normal cable for the Blizzard scsi kit ends with an external 25 pins connector, and the 7720U wants a 50 internal one.
Since I'd like to try to keep this setup simple, where can I find a cable that goes directly from the scsi kit to the 7720U without passing through adapters ?

Then, I want to plug a 2.5'' ide drive (or CF adapter not sure yet) but the 7720U seems to be made for 3.5'' drives.
Any suggestions about an adapter for that ?

You want something like this:
http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/...roducts_id=180

...but compatible with the Blizzard SCSI module that you have.
I'd strongly suggest to ask AmigaKit if they make such a cable (since they make a lot of custom ones) or an adapter to put in your own cable.

How do I update the firmware? I guess the maximum mine supports is 128gb

I guess I need to buy a suitable scsi controller for my pc?

Thanks for the hint.
I sent an email to amigakit concerning this 7 days ago and still no reply.
I guess my email fell in a crack or they are very busy
