So just to summarise from the first page, I see that Defender of the Crown should be played in NTSC mode! Have I understood that right?

If a game was developed in the USA it probably should be played on NTSC hardware if possible.

Then again with most Cinemaware games they need to be played on a 68040 if you want lag free arcade/action sections even on the 2D game engines.

More importantly, are the circles in the correct aspect ratio or do you mean ovals?

For some reason if you play Speedball in the usual PAL then you don't get the scorebar as it off the bottom of the screen. If you switch to NTSC then it displays fine with the scorebar clearly displayed.

The scorebar is present in PAL mode too, but the game uses crazy high overscan, 285 lines.

Technically any game written for 320x200 mode is targeted for future NTSC release after PAL development, which makes it almost all of them.

That's not universally true - there's a handful of 320x200 games written for Euro audiences that will bug when run in NTSC.
