Mouse cursor problem
After fixing my a500. (dodgy IC pins seating) I have it going on now, turned on since about early 2000s. Annoying thing is, I've tried about 7 mouses (So i know it's not the mouses) I put it in Joystick1port (it doesn't do anything on port 2) and where ever I move the mouse it makes its way down to the bottom-right of the screen until you can't see it.
I can click the mouses buttons though. Any idea what is it? is it a dodgy port or is it yet another IC problem? ![]() I might try and capture a video of it if you dont know what I mean by this. |

Can be a CIA or Paula problem. Replace one at a time with another good ones from another A500.

Mouse movement is handled by Denise. (+multiplexer TTL chip that selects between mouse ports, select signal also comes from Denise) It is usually always the TTL chip or solder joint problem if another port works fine. |

Chip is marked as U20 (74<something>) and it most likely is soldered. (EDIT: not sure if my schematics are for early or late A2000s..)

I read it as early A2000
![]() A500 problem is usually always U15 (74LS157), soldered on PCB. Very common problem. (but replace socketed Denise first if you have spares, not that I have ever heard of Denise getting damaged that way) |

problem fixed! finally, to cut a long story short, the multiplexer chip was okay. It was something on the board that got damaged. a damaged track to suply 5 Volts (I think) to the Clock TTL (under the Denise) if that clock chip isn't working, then the multiplexer chip doesn't operate.

ok problem's back, it's been back for a while now. EXCEPT, only the vertical axis works, but not the horizontal? after about 10 minutes, sometimes it will sort it's self out.

^hehe
this is a funny one, it works now. I think it was the Denise/ECS all along, after getting a new 48 pin desise socket to replace the old bent one, the mouse problem has gone away! |
