How's your memory? Tornado cover disk demo
Hi chaps. I've been fiddling around with some old coverdisks, trying to get some game demos working from my hard drive. One of them of interest to me was Digitial Integration's flightsim,Tornado.
Unfortunately, although you can hear the game running and responding to keyboard controls, it only displays a black screen. I was trying to work out why, then I had a sudden recollection from 30 years ago. This is exactly what happened then..... I'm almost sure. It must have worked for some people but my memory says I was never able to play the demo because of this problem. Does anybody out there remember playing it back in the early nineties, and did you have a similar problem with it? Thanks. "I need your memories!" |

Are you talking about the demo on Amiga Format Disk 56b?
If so, that works fine for me in WinUAE with the default A500 Quickstart config. Disk has to write enabled or it won't load (requester pops up if disk write protected), if you click cancel on the requester it goes to a grey screen and stays like that! |

Thanks Barry, thanks Nobby.
In your individual cases, when you get a black or grey screen, can you hear the game running? For instance, hitting the F keys takes me to external view (still black) but the engine sound changes to reflect that. After a while missile warning alarms sound etc. Thanks. |

I just dumped the files into a folder on my 1.3 HD config in WinUAE, opened shell and cd'd into the folder and just typed 'run tornado' and it ran!

Did it work for you from floppy? I've tried it on both 1.2 512=512 and stock A1200 settings without issues from floppy?
However, does anyone know where to get the full game of Toado, the Frogger clone also on the disk? Both versions on planetemu (including the LGD one with their cracktro) are just the 3-level Amiga Format demo, which chuck you back to the title screen after completing level 3. The foes you have to dodge on those 3 levels are intriguing enough to make me wonder what the designers had in store for the other 17. (Love it that those names Tornado and Toado are so similar too - why couldn't we have had games called Alien Bed or Monk Island too?) |

He said TOADO
The Toado files on the FTP appear to be the DEMO, not full version! |

Thanks TCD, found it. The demo is actually levels 1/5/10 rather than the first three as I'd assumed, so having only reached level 7 thus far I haven't seen much new, but thanks.

I brought across the installation attempts I'd made on my 1200 to run the demo to my pc and tried them in WinUAE. Full visuals - no problem. On real hardware though, I'm currently stuffed. :-/

My config in WinUAE was for KS1.3 + 1mb + HD, just tried in my A1200 config by copying the folder from my 1.3 setup to my A1200 setup and cd'ing into the folder and typing 'run tornado' and it works under emulation!
My A1200 setup has 128mb Fast RAM! |

Thanks, Nobby. Nothing I've tried has enabled the display on actual Amiga hardware. :-/
