I'm looking to buy a couple of Dreamcasts and I was wondering if anyone knew any decent places?

I'll take a look on ebay but I thought I'd ask here first see if anyone knows where I can get one?

if you have a "cash converters" near you have a look inside - i went in one in camberwell the other day and they had about 5 dreamcasts, £30 each. they also had tons of games...also plenty of N64, PSone and megadrive stuff....

I know somewhere that is selling boxed (they could even possibly be new) DC's for £45 with a game, Although the choice of game isnt brilliant (tomb raider was one of the ones I saw)

In Glasgow there are a few shops called G-Force, I dont know if they have any other shops through out the UK, maybe, but you can get Dreamcast's their for around £15, unboxed but usually with a controller, RF lead and power supply.

I will try to find out if they are only Glasgow based, but I'm sure I seen one in London.

They could well be new, as when Dreamcast decided to basically stop, there were reportedly 700,000 unsold units left throughout the world…

I think that in the US once the DC went to $50 the stock quickly sold out, they might still make a few in japan since they still release games there.

There is a place here locally (Game X Crazy) that sells used DC's with 2 controllers cheap $24.99 (along with used games) they also sell the following used equipment:

Used Consoles:

N64 $19.99 +2 controllers
PSX One $29.99 + 2 controllers
Sega Genisis $19.99 + 2 controllers
Nintendo $39.99 + 2 controllers
Super Nintendo $29.99 + 2 controllers

Used Games:

The advertise "yesterdays legends" for DC, PSX, N64 for $1.99 and up for games.

"Classic Plastic" $2.99 and up for Genesis, Nintendo, and Super Nintendo games.

The store is located next to hollywood Video stores. Too bad a sega saturn isnt listed I want one of those, might head out there this week to see what they have. Is a sega genesis any good? I didnt get into consoles untill the PSX came out in the 90's.

I just snapped up the last Dreamcast they had in stock and bought myself a copy of Shenmue for £8.99, but its been confiscated until Christmas

Anyone here played Shenmue? Is it really as good as all the hype? If so is the sequel as good?

Shenmue is a game that could divide the world.

I personally think the game is a masterpiece and well worth getting, playing and completing.

It's such a beautiful game, if anyone needed proof that the DC was a next-gen console then this was it. The game is really, really beautiful to look at, the characters, the settings, all bloody nice.

I know people who've taken it back within a few hours of playing it, but then again I know people (like me) who've completed it more than once and wouldn't have it any other way.

Sure the main character comes across as gay as graham norton (but not as damn annoying) and the action isn't as open-ended as originally stated, but it's still a gem of a game.

The dreamcast is a damn fine machine still with a very active homebrew community.

Regarding Shenmue - I agree that it's a game that divides the world. Graphically it's superb with audio to match but the game is just so damn slow...z.zzzzzzzzzz.

This is because the game is played in real time - I.E. if you arrange to meet someone at a set time then you have to wait until it's that time of day. While you can interact with every character, the non essential one's utter the same few phrases between them which becomes extremely irritating.

You even have to get a tedius job and then perform those duties.

Granted, the fight scenes are well done but it's one of those games that you will love or hate - there's no middle ground.

Sonic 1 & 2 are brilliant though. Chu Chu rocket is a brilliant puzzler. The dreamcast has the best version of Half-Life (you won't get that in the shops though!) and Midnight Street Racing has cars that handle superbly (this evolved into Project Gotham on Xbox) and one of my fave games on Dreamcast is 18 Wheeler. Floigen bros is worth a try as well and seeing Soul Calibur in action makes you wonder why the DC was canned.

Allthough I beleive Shenmue to be the greatest game of all time, I wouldnt say that Shenmue II is better than the first one, as it gets a bit strange towards the end, (I wont spoil it for you!) but its still a fantastic game, a worthy addition to your DC collection, and will leave you wanting more!

but the DC version is Japanese/English subtitled.

oh, and a few strange games worth a try:

Seaman (Strange virtual pet game which you can talk to using sipplied mic, very strange how well it actually works, and strangely addictive, US released only but it works with a boot disc on a PAL DC)

Sega Bass fishing (if you drink alcohol a lot (like me), using this game with the official Dreamcast fishing rod, with a few drunken mates is a great laugh)

Occasionally you will find most of these games available on EBay brand new, still sealed, so go and get em while you still can.
