Worms ECS does not work on WinUAE/UAE/UAES60

Hello,

As topic, Worms ECS does not work on WinUAE/UAE/UAES60 !
I tried the following versions:
Worms (1995) (Ocean) (M3) (Disk 1 of 3) [cr OTT]
Worms (1995) (Ocean) (M3) (Disk 1 of 3) [cr FLT]

It works fine until you get to the title screen, then after selecting the team (or friendly), it resets the machine, then the good guru meditation.
I tried different configurations but does not work (1MBchip-0fast, 512Kchip-512kslow, ...kick1.3, kick2.0, kick3.0, no 2nd floppy drive... etc etc).

Someone can confirm that it works on WinUAE?

I would need this version of Worms because I want to play it with UAE on my phone, and it emulates only an Amiga ECS with ADF images (does not support AGA and IPF-files). ("Worms: The Director's Cut" required AGA)

thank you!

The game uses every last byte of chipram. Even the original had failed on my A600 when HD is enabled. I think the cracked version tips it over the edge though. Solution is simply give the emu more memory though. 2mb chip should be fine.

confirmed [cr OTT] works fine, but the flt crack is bad.

Worms crash on A500 OCS KS 1.3 and A500+ ECS KS 2.04 with 1mb or 2mb.

It only works actually on a A1200 configuration. I have been able to reproduce the crash
when choosing the teams.

Theres nothing wrong with the FLT version!

If you read the readme for the game, on certain machines you don't get half the levels because of memory requirements.

thanks for the advice!

I'm using the [crOTT]-version with 1MB-chip and 768K of slowram with an old version of UAE. (UAE for S60 does not allow the use of 2MB chip).

I ask only one more thing: Since I can not find Disk 2 and 3 for [crOTT]-version ... can I use Disk 2&3 from the [crFLT]-version?

thank you

The ftl crack cant have been one of your finest moments if it needed an A1200 for an 1mb ecs game. The OTT crack works like original does on 1mb A500/500+/A600... WORKS !

The memory requirements for that game were set by Team 17 not us!

The readme on the disk BY Team 17 stipulated the memory requirements.

Worms is also bugged, in that if it finds a CD.DEVICE it thinks its the CD32 version and hangs.

Heretic!!
Amiga games must be played fullscreen, as they were on the Amiga!

For the same reason I don't like to play Amiga/C64/Spectrum/SNES/Megadrive/Arcade games on my PSP. I prefer GBA/GBC/etc. games, which were designed for a portable console.

I think that Worms is one of those few games that can be played on a mobile phone with a small screen and no joystick.

At least one Amiga game I want to have with me =)
I first thought of Lemmings, but I considered it a game too fast to play on a mobile phone (the higher levels require a real skill with the mouse and the phone is not convenient).

Playing with GBA emulators is too bad since phones do not have a joypad created for this purpose.

@dlfsilver There never was any issue with worms working. Only requirement was and absolute minimum of 1mb whether thats 1mb chip or 512chip+512slow. The original works fine in this config and so does the OTT crack. Not sure why suddently saying it works with uae 2.0.2 as it wasnt broken before.

I really have no clue why the FLT version is causing so many problems.

The original WORMS file is packed with Crunchmania Normal

I repacked the file using Crunchmania Normal

my crack routine is contained within the file, its not external.

The only difference is the original WORMS file appears to have been packed on a higher setting, which I can only account for the problem of running out of memory.

There is nothing actually wrong with the crack itself, just the utterly ridiculously perilous tipping point as to when the game will load correctly or not because of very stringent memory requirements.

Blitz Basic FTW!

winuae had a problem. I have made some test BEFORE using winuae 2.0.2 beta2, and worms refused to work on OCS/ECS configs whatever the memory you'd have allowed it to run. After the OCS bug remaining cleaning, i have upgraded to winuae 2.0.2 beta 2, and the game works back with 512+512 or 1mb of memory with OCS/ECS. Something was clearly broken.

Of course. That's why this was written in the nfo for the OTT release of Worms:

Code:
RELEASE NOTES : Right, If you're wondering why another version of Worms has
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ appeared, Please, Read on... The Fairlight version didn't
                load on OCS/ECS machines. The way Galahad had cracked it
                to accept any code was very impresive but something went
                wrong and it would only load on AGA machines. ( It wasn't
                a memory problem 'cause it was tried on loads of different
                ECS memory configs. ) Everything worked except the all
                important "GAME START", As soon as you clicked on League,
                Friendly or Tournament your machine crashed.
So there was WinUAE in 1995 already, Denis?
Thats all irrelevant as it doesn't even load the OCEAN and TEAM17 logo files, it just backs out immediately.
This is all very odd as it was cracked on an A500+ with 1meg of chipram and worked fine.
