AmigaOS 3.2.2.1 - ViNCEd expansion requester won't open

I have a -pretty much- standard OS 3.2.2.1 install with ViNCEd 3.106 (latest version from Aminet) and I can't get the file requester to show when using the TAB expansion function.

On a similar setup under AmigaOS 3.1.4 the requester shows up and lets me choose an option as expected. I even moved over the ViNCEd.prefs file to the OS 3.2.2.1 system but nothing changes: on the 2nd TAB press the list of available choices is displayed in console but the requester won't show up (nor I can cycle through the choices in other ways).

Am I missing something?

Under Os 3.2 and later it is not ViNCEd that does the TAB expansion, it is the shell.

Thanks, I must have missed it.

So there is no way to override it and have the standard OS 3.2 TAB expansion under the CON: shell and the "file requester" TAB expansion under the VNC: ViNCEd shell?

If I remember correctly, I have seen something about that in the guide. It was somewhere in the FAQ, something about adding a line to the shell-startup file.

In the AmigaOS 3.2 FAQ I've read that you can configure the TAB expansion with a few options (Default mode, CYCLE, EARLYLISTING), but there is no mention of a "file requester" option.

I couldn't find anything in the ViNCEd docs either but I may have missed it.

If you haven't found it, it is in the ViNCEd.guide:

Quote:
Under AmigaOs 3.2 or better, the shell does TAB expansion itself, bypassing
ViNCEd. As the shell is designed to work over the network, or serial links,
it has no idea about windows, intuition and graphical user interfaces
whatsoever. As such, it does not provide requesters either.

However, you can enforce to disable this mechanism of the shell, and leave
TAB expansion to ViNCEd again. For that, set the following shell variable:

Code:
set simpleshell on
To make this a permanent change, paste the above line into S:Shell-Startup.
Note, however, that the ViNCEd TAB expansion is about to be phased out in
future releases.

Thanks! I missed it... So I can finally have the standard TAB expansion in the shell windows, and the file requester in ViNCEd... Well, at least until it's phased out.

Using OS3.2.2.1 and ViNCEd and for the first time I noticed that pressing the middle mouse button (scrollwheel) on my mouse also PASTES (whatever is copied on the clipboard) into ViNCEd's CLI window. Middle mouse button paste, doesn't happen anywhere except ViNCEd...
I found out that if I mark the text pasted (or everything on the line) and hit BACKSPACE then the buffer is lost and hitting middle mouse button doesn't do anything.

Starting to feel like the "Steve Urkel" of OS3.2.x testing :P

EDIT: Just tested the same thing on OS3.9 using ViNCEd and the same thing happens so it's not OS3.2.x related bug or feature :P

Yes, that is all intentional, and yes, that can also be configured. Middle-mouse button paste is pretty much a standard under unixoid systems BTW, and erasing a block with backspace is not so uncommon either.

Can you elaborate please ThoR on how to configure for middle mouse button not pasting?
