Question FS-UAE Launcher > Unable to run configuration >

Hi there guys.

I was looking for some advice, and was hoping that you could help me.

Background:
I'm trying to help out a mate, who's eager to get back into the Amiga scene
(mostly games to begin with).

He's using a Macbook (Macbook Pro 2)
And I've downloaded FS-UAE (as it's brilliant, and what I use on my Linux box).

I've successfully installed both the FS-UAE app, and the FS-UAE launcher app
(originally in the Applications dir, now moved see details below).

Also installed the Kickstart ROMS, to the correct dir.

Issue:
I've downloaded FS-UAE, and originally installed in the Applications folder

I can load the FS-UAE launcher app itself, however once I've created an Amiga
configuration, When I then click on start - It will fail with the following error message:

Code:
Error: could not find fs-uae executable
Troubleshooting steps:
1. The app was originally saved into the Applications dir.

2. I gave FS-UAE permissions in the security and privacy setttings menu.

3. I've moved both of the FS-UAE apps to their respective dir -
/user/Documents/FS-UEA/System/
/user/Documents/FS-UAE/System/Launcher/

As I've read that it prefers to be in this location / sub dir.
I had to manually create the Launcher and sub dirs.

mentioned in a previous EAB thread about a very similar issue =
https://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=113175

4. Running the FS-UAE App = Loads a default Amiga A500 with the hand requester asking for a disk / boot disk

5. Running the FS-UAE launcher app loads, allows me to create Amiga configurations
but as mentioned above, once I select "start", the app will fail with -

Code:
Error: could not find fs-uae executable
TBF I'm not very familiar with Mac OS, but I do run Linux and was hoping that
it would be as easy has it has been on my Linux box.
Sadly it's not been nearly as easy to get running.

Questions:
1. What do I need to do, in order to get the FS-UAE launcher app running properly
To allow me to run any Amiga configurations ?

2. These Mac .DMG files appear to be mini virtulised apps that allow you to
run apps in a sandboxed mode. The error appears to be complaing that it cannot
find the FS-UAE app in its preferred location

But using both the "Applications" dir, and the supposedly preffered location
within the FS-UEA dirs, has the same end result.

2.1. What am I missing to allow this to work ?

3. Is there anything else I could be doing, to get things up and running ?

Useful details:
Mac OS: TBC
CPU: x86_64
Darwin Kernel Version: 21.6.0

FS-UAE ver: FS-UAE Launcher 3.1.68

I've attached the log files (see the pastebin links)
1. fs-uae-launcher.log.txt
https://pastebin.com/DN8Anb3G

2. fs-uae.log.txt
https://pastebin.com/B6u8UK8k

TIA for any help and advice.

Hi,
I'm not a Mac user but I am guessing that the launcher is looking for the FS-UAE App to be in the Applications folder which is where it was originally stored. The Launcher is mostly a GUI to the App and still needs to run the App to work. Try puting a copy of the App back into the Applications folder and see if that works.

At least here on linux that would not be correct and at the same time explain why the fs-uae executable is not found
It should be:
/user/Documents/FS-UAE/System/FS-UAE/
and
/user/Documents/FS-UAE/System/FS-UAE-Launcher/
Where the directories in Bold are the top ones extracted from the downloaded archives.

Using FS-UAE on Mac M1 here

I had to put both apps in THE SAME folder to get it to work

I just read the macOS instructions from the FS-UAE download page and they are mostly identical with the Linux one. Except Linux has .tar.xz while macOS uses .dmg

The important thing here is probably to NOT (try to) mix the contents of one .dmg image with the contents of the other (I'm just guessing here that .dmg is kinda sort of a archive format like .tar.xz for macOS because the instruction says something like "the apps within" ), put them in the same folder but leave them separate. Or to quote the instructions:
Quote:
You must keep these two apps stored alongside each other
At least that is what I have done successfully on Linux and why in my example FS-UAE and FS-UAE-Launcher end up not mixed but alongside each other in the same /user/Documents/FS-UAE/System/ folder. Like Frode recommends (in preparation of the Portable version).

@midimax

that's what I said ... "alongside" is here "THE SAME folder"

Btw. a DMG File is nothing else than an image file and for macOS, both the FS-UAE and the LAUNCHER app are in the same DMG ! just put it into one folder ANYWHERE on your computer and you're good

https://fs-uae.net/download#macosx has 2 DMG Files to download. One named FS-UAE_... and another one named FS-UAE-LAUNCHER_... They are both in (the First) one of them?

Oh sorry, my fault ... I downloaded it some time ago and made my own DMG to make the backup of those files easier

So, yeah : two DMG files, but the contents of those have to be in the same folder anyway
