Porting Photoshop to Amiga
Semi serious proposal: porting Photoshop 1.0 to classic Amigas, starting from its source code available here: https://github.com/amix/photoshop
After reading this http://computerhistory.org/atchm/ado...p-source-code/ I've been asking myself how doable a porting would be but having no Amiga coding skills I never manage to give me an answer, hence this post := |

"about 128,000 lines of mostly uncommented but well-structured code. By line count, about 75% of the code is in Pascal, about 15% is in 68000 assembler language, and the rest is data of various sorts."
This makes about 20.000 lines of undocumented assembler code. It would need months, maybe years. |

I guess Photoshop is a different thing than dpaint. Photoshop does more things, dpaint is a pixel manipulation program.

I would have thought Photogenics would have been closer to Photoshop on the Amiga if I recall.

And FxPaint and ArtEffect... etc...
ArtEffect is my favourite of this kind of painting (non pixelling) programs. I'll still use it all the time for more modern painting needs (retouching of scanned images, creating alpha transparencies, extensive magic wand usage etc). In any case I think all these newer major gfx packages on Amiga should make Photoshop 1.0 obsolete |

There are talks somewhere of a indea for a compatibility layer for Mac OS classic applications structured in the same way Wine is structured in linux; that would indeed help run mac binaries but i don't see it as a short time commitment - btw a thing like that cannot be called other than "hard cider"

You can use photoshop 4 on amiga apparently.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/243403...57626159037639 Version 4 has support for layers which is pretty handy. |

I would say with emulation 3.0.5 or 4 do a good job, however 3.0.5. is lighter; has layers but lack macros and batch conversions that instead 4 has. however the shareware GraphicConverter can substitute on that.
The original topic was, however, to get the source of PS1 and compile it for Amiga natively. |

That's not many lines of code to go through. PCx is 1.6 million lines of assembly code, not including the drivers.

I'd be down for a re-sourced version of photoshop for the amiga provided it stays light on requirements (no mui/ixemul etc etc cos fuck that noise)

Why would anyone want to run Photoshop when you have ArtEffect?

At least if someone does take on the task of porting Photoshop, we'll be able to say it's native on our amigas now |
