Games where you blow the crap out of stuff...
I've recently wanted to blow the crap out of some stuff, without thinking too much about it.
Been playing Geometry Wars: Galaxies on my Wii, which I love. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geometry_Wars:_Galaxies As well as the odd game of Robokill, which is a fantastic flash game which I've previously mentioned in the Off Topic Section. http://www.rocksolidarcade.com/games/robokill/ I don't mind a little bit of story and have enjoyed games like "Future Cop: LAPD" and the strike series, as well as both Mech Assault games on the xbox. I was wondering if anyone else knew of some new (and maybe old) games which have a bit of that old-school mentality (plus some blowing stuff up). I'm not too interested in anything on the PC but anything Wii/360 or stuff for the MD/SNES/Amiga (anything I can emulate on my old xbox) would be cool. Another game which springs to mind is Millennium Soldier: Expendable (not the best game ever but great for a laugh and some shooting. EDIT: oh and Zero Gunner 2 on the Dreamcast, that was superb. EDIT 2: Must give Battle Tech on the Megadrive a go. Remember playing it briefly and it looked/felt good. EDIT 3: Ranger-X is awesome. Last edited by killergorilla; 07 October 2009 at 17:30. |

Dead Space Extraction is a rail shooter that's meant to be good for the Wii.
I recently had a foursome on Sunset Riders which was great fun. I think I'm probably on the wrong track tho? |

I don't mind a bit of rails shooting. Virtua Cop is one of my all time faves, plus I've got RE: Umbrella Chronicles which I do enjoy every now and then.
But I'm thinking more along the lines of games where you are in control of the player/character/tank/big gun. Sunset riders! Completed that recently, gets a tad.. samey |

Pretty much any of the Command and Conquer series, its also on the 360 those special weapons such as Nukes/Ion cannons are pretty destructive. But its an RTS I dunno if thats the genre you like.
The Red Faction games are supposed to have realistic damage to the environment. |

on the 360, left 4 dead is a blast, blowing up hordes of zombies... even in single player the AI is very good, resulting in a very different playing experience each time you play... uncomparable imho with any other fps....

Am enjoying Wolfenstein on PC at the moment (the new one). Loved it since Wolf 3D back in the early 90's.

i know, but l4d deserves the exception of course. rez on the 360 is quite nice as a railed funky shooter... and zombie apocalypse is basically geometry wars with geoms replaced with... zombies...

Yeah Rez is a nice game, remember playing through it a good few times a few years back.
Loved the music in it too. |

Don't know if it's been ok'd for Europe play... and I know you said 'no PC' but this certainly doesn't qualify for your usual PC game...
Dungeon Fighter Online It's got the dreaded "RPG elements" But for the most part it's 'spend 30 seconds getting quests, spend 8 minutes playing a Hyper version of Golden Axe and scoring crazy juggle combos before the goblins blow up'. Nothing like reducing a Minotaur to gibbly cartoon bits with a running thrust kick. Awesome. |

Ultimate blow shit up game remains Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for me. Just go on a killing spree and get the army after you, then steal a tank. Total carnage!

Never played it myself but I hear Blast Corps on the N64 (does the xbox emulate that?) is supposed to be pretty good.

Have you got a PS3...?
Apologies in advance if I'm going too new skool but have you played Killzone 2? I've played it loads and really enjoyed it - and all you do is blow the living f*ck out of everything that moves. \o/ For old skool - how about something like Cabal? Games a bit shit but if all you want to do is mindlessly shoot at stuff and blow things up then that's all you get in that one. EDIT: Whoops - posted this and then re-read that you didn't want FPS games. No KZ2 for you then. Sorry. Last edited by pmc; 07 October 2009 at 20:52. |

In Killer Instinct, once you know all the combos you can beat all CPU opponents with Glacius or Fulgore, and possibly a majority of human ones whatever the character they choose.
That's due to the gameplay being flawed : There are no real counter attacks (tech. hit), like in modern VS games. The downside is that you'll get bored faster. I am thinking about the N64 version KI Gold, the Arcade versions (KI II is simply great !) seem a bit more difficult to master. Last edited by NewDeli; 07 October 2009 at 21:27. |

KillerG, I have just the game!
Amiga PD game - Revenge! Revenge is great fun. Blow the crap out of characters such as The Mask, Sonic the Prick-Hog and soft tart Mario. Use weapons like Uzi, Shotgun, Alien DNA experiment - basically just kill. Then you get bonus rounds where you have to go berserk on all the decapitated heads - I think. Long time since I played it. I had two versions on my hard drive - I think one is ECS (untested) and the other definitely AGA but I can't upload at the moment. Can someone upload it? - I declare hunting season on Hero softies is now open. |
