The Settlers 1 - Strange situation

Since a couple weeks I enjoy this old game in WinUAE.
In level 6 there's a strange situation concerning paths and flags.
See this screenshot I did today(it's not a fake!):
the settlers - strange situation.jpg

In the upper right corner is a red flag standing on my path.
My settlers use this red flag like a blue flag!

I play settlers now for more than 25 years and never ever had this situation.
I wonder what happens when my constructor finishes the army building...

Cheers,
Rick

It's a feature, you could always connect to the flags right next to the border.
Sometimes it helps you sometimes it doesn't though...

When connecting flags and roads, the game doesn't check that both are on your land. As a result, it becomes possible to link your terrain to your opponent's.
I don't think this can bring anything useful, though.

I watched the situation for around 20 minutes and did more screenshots.
See the attached pictures. Very strange.
My constructor built the hut with my material, my soldier entered the hut and directly after that the hut belongs to my foe...

very fascinating

Cheers,
Rick

My sister and I used to do this in two player games. We'd wait until the other wasn't looking and build a road parallel to the border, add a flag, join their road, then delete it.

After the hut was in the foe's posession I started an attack.
Out of the foe's red hut came a blue soldier to fight against my blue soldiers!

See attached picture.

You can do the same to them - get them to build you a guard hut and fully staff it for you. I also do it with warehouses to nick their stuff.

Although I knew about this feature I have never tried this with a hut and watching two allies soldiers fighting for foe's fortress is just fascinating

How that resulted?

I always used this method for stealing ore, fish or other commodities.

I'm not sure that an obscure bug like this counts as an 'old chestnut'?
Has this been discussed at length on eab before?

I've played Settlers from the very beginning 1993 on my Amiga 500.
Hours and days and weeks.

It's now 2020 a.d. and I play it on WinUAE. My original A500 - purchased brand new back in 1987 is still working but I don't use it anymore since the WinUAE emulation works perfect.

Only when I like to use my old joysticks the old machine comes back to life.
I did never ever experienced this obscure situation in the Settlers game.
And I never ever heard of such stuff before.

Cheers,
Rick

This glitch/trick works best when you have a lack of resources.

I have done this before and for example if you are blue flag and red flag soldiers occupies your guard hut and you go off to attach the red flag huts you will find that they won't attack

Same here, had no idea this was possible... and played it since game came out in 1993, first on Amiga, later on PC.

Does anyone know if this was only amiga bug?
