TCP/IP stack

that'll work with only 2MB RAM.

This pretty much rules out Genesis and Miami, I guess.... not sure about Termite but I simply don't have the RAM.

Older version of AMI-TCP mayhaps? One that isn't too hard to set up?

Reason:

For my birthday, I was given a laptop computer, complete with a network card. a 3Com Megahertz 3CCFEM556B card, to be exact. And I was looking through a couple of networking threads here, with a link to 3C589.lha.... and lo and behold, that card is listed in the list over "working cards"

Termite TCP will work with your config. AmiTCP will work too. In any case you should also consider the requirements of the software you will use on top of the TCP-IP stack (eg: web browser, irc client, ftp client, etc).
There is a free version of AmiTCP at:

I use AmiTCP 3.0b2 on my A600 with 2MB Chip RAM. It works well, good enough at least for transferring stuff with AExplorer, running lynx, etc.

Thanks alot for the advice, peeps

*grumble*

installation of the above AmiTCP stack went allright, but I get a guru on bootup..... wait a sec, I need to remove the SurfSquirrel from the startup won't I......it'll interfere and cause problems..... Right?

EDIT2:
Okays. Now tried (with the SurfSquirrel initializer) both Miami3.2 and AmiTCP 3.0 and to no avail. I'm starting to beleive this card wasn't supported after all.

As said in the first post, it's a 3CCFEM556 B card, labeled "MegaHertz" and it's actually a multifunction 10/100 Ethernet and 56k Modem. Any suggestions about what todo next?

Is this in A600 or A1200? If A1200, are you using CardPatch/CardReset? Also, try running card_info from the old cnetdevice package and see if it sees the card.

I dont think that ethernet card is not usable on the Amiga

The 3C589 driver hints it might "3C3FEM556C" but this list seems to hint at other...

http://www.g-mb.de/pcmcia_e.html

Try inserting your card after power on.

Adolescent, it's even a C= type A1200

I'll have a look with other stuff and see if I can at least make the computer see that there's a card in there... if not, I'm completely had again, I guess

Just a thought, if you google the newsgroup demon.ip.support.amiga you'll find a lot of stuff there. If its an AmiTCP issue, you should find a lot of info.

The other thing is that the author of the 3C589 driver, Neil Cafferkey is a really nice guy who may be able to help you out.

Okays, I've been in contact with the author of the 3C589.device, he tells me that my best option would be to get a pure 10Mbit card, even though my 889-card have a 10Mbit mode. main reason is the A1200's crappy PCMCIA hardware which makes the 100MBit completely unusable.

Ah, well, was worth a try, I guess

You can get a 100Mbit card that works on A1200/A600, but it has to be a CNET 1.9 compatible 16-bit one. You wont benefit from the extra speed I fear.

Yeah, he told me that as well.

Quote:
Although there are some cnet.device-compatible
100Mbps cards around, the A1200's PCMCIA port is too slow to take full
advantage of even a 10Mbps card, so there isn't much point getting a fast
card.
That was his answer to me. And he seemed sorry to be unableto get even just the 10Mbit module to work... at least that's what I read into how he worded his reply to me
