70,000 credit fine??
Right, I am flying about between galaxies on Frontier Elite II and not having any problems, but I am trying to make my way back to SOL, or the Imperial capital, and I can't land at any of the galaxies near them as I suddenly have a 70,000 credit fine for no reason at all. I haven't done anything wrong and there is nothing on my record.
If I reload and go to some other galaxies in the other direction, i'm fine, it only seems to happen near them. Do I need a permit or something? Any ideas? |

I think that might happen if you entered in the protection code wrong

Note I'm far from knowledgable with this game. I've barely managed to get off the ground on the PC and have far from travelled around a lot, but if you have no criminal record (I assume stuff you do to get a fine goes on the record) is it completely unbelieveable that this could be the result of a bad crack?
Some games do have strange behaviour when not cracked properly and will not nescesarily reveal that you failed the protection. I know I were very confused with Flashback when I had a bad crack of that. After doing the escort job you get a password screen (which in most versions I've seen isn't cracked). Once you answer wrong the 3rd time you're returned to the game, but not teleported like you're supposed to be. Taken into consideration that the first version I played had the same thing happen with the initial password (3 times "fail", then move on like you passed it) I were spending a lot of time trying to figure out what was going on. I know there were adventure games around where an important part of the puzzle would be missing if you failed the protection, I believe Dreamweb numbered among these. |

Well, I am using DeCreators WHDLoad file, so something must be up there.
But as I said, this only happens when going into the outlying galaxies of certain sectors (core, imperial, etc), I cant jump around other galaxies and land there with no problems (even after answering protection questions). I'll try another install with CAPS and WHDLoad itself, but I don't think it is going to work... |

Nope, WHDLoad install from scratch with CAPS images doesn't work either. This seems to be very specific asif there is some real reason why it is happening.

You are playing a cracked version that assumes
You are a criminal in the imperial & federation systems for unpaid fines obviously even though its cracked its left this information off your start file.
If I guess right you start with a clapped out Cobra somewhere in the far South West badlands below the borders of the imperial empire. Hence the problem of cracked games IMHO Without a full manual to back you up & NO starchart to fully check. your starting at an advanced game start level instead of the usual beginers Sirocco starport on Merlin in the Ross 154 system If I remember right the only other intermedite is starting with a broken ship on mars in the SOL system And yes I,ve a saved game which I keep returning too that I,m virtually 90 yrs old on played without cheats So I,m having to dodge authorities while dumping illegal radioactive waste before landing in some systems on MANUAL. But hey its just agame isn,t it ? |

Woodshed is right, although it has nothing to do with the copy protection.
When you start in the Ross System or on Mars you have a clean record. When you start on Lave you are a Fugitive in Imperial and Federation systems, and have to pay a 70,000c fine to remove them. Damn, I wasn't aware of this before. Complete pain in the ass. |

I was just looking at this, and it seemed quite interesting... "Commodore Amiga - 3.5 inch diskette 1993 - This version was coded by David Braben himself in 68000 Assembler." "Commodore Amiga CD32 - Compact Disc 1996 - Completely de-bugged and features the Navigation Computer, as seen in FFE, as well as other minor and cosmetic changes. The password protection was also removed." Does this mean the CD32 version is actually better? |

if you scroll out away from your current position.... very far btw... you can actually jump there... so you can jump from Barnard's Star (FED) to Tivecan (IMP) in two short humps find grid co-ord 63.53 (Anveda) you must be in Barnard's Star |

I know this is off topic and everything, but have any of you guys gotten around to playing HardWar? As far as I can tell from Home of the underdogs it's a PC 3D-accelerated semi-clone of Frontier. You populate a randomly generated planet where you fly around the canyons and craters who are interconnected by either canyons or tunnels. You have to do the buy/sell thing to make money, or you can play as a bounty hunter or pirate or whatever you want. Apparently some people modified the game to make it online multiplayer too. I managed to get the version from HOTU once but never figured out how to play it properly.

Nope, never heard of it...
Apparently the source for all the Elites is being released soon, so it would be nice to see Frontier improved on the Amiga... |

DJay, as you seem to know so much about Frontier: When you deliver a military package late, what complications does this have? Do you lose points, or do you just not get paid?
