YAM 2.5 - A bit slow?
Just thought I would share this...
I have been using the latest version (2.5) of YAM and I noticed that on an 030 A1200 is was a bit sluggish - older versions were definitely quicker - I found this theme for YAM on Aminet and it works pretty well... http://aminet.net/package/comm/yam/empty_theme It basically strips away all the flashy icons within the program and makes it run far quicker... I thought it was useful. |

YAM would run a lot faster if the images weren't all 24bit (pngs I think) because it takes a while for the datatypes to decompress and remap the colours. If you used ImageStudio or something to batch process all the skin images to remap them to whatever colours you use on Workbench and saved them as uncompressed IFF/ILBM YAM should load faster as well as still look nice.
Which version of AmigaOS are you running? The 3.9 datatypes are about five times slower than the 3.1 ones. Last edited by Cammy; 25 February 2010 at 18:28. |

That's good thinking Cammy - I might have a go at making my own theme for Yam - I liked the Magic WB and also the Pro-Lite icons from previous versions of Yam - I just don't like my Amiga looking like a PC on screen - I guess I am just very, very old school in my thinking!

Oh cool, if you end up making a theme for YAM 2.5 I'd love to use it too, I can't stand the crappy one that comes with it, and haven't found a replacement I like. My Workbench is 16 colours though, but the first 8 colours are MagicWB

Just thought I would share this... I cant really get on with the latest version of YAM so I looked around for another bit of software to do the job...
I only really use my Amiga for email when my PC is tied up burning DVD's etc. so I didn't need anything too fancy... I have started to use eucalyptus as an alternative to YAM... it sits quite happily in the background... have a look a the quick screen grab I took - it checks for email every so often - neat but basic... |

I would be shocked if YAM didn't work - I have a gmail account, I can check to see if it works with eucalyptus if that is any use to you... I don't have Yam on my A1200 now.

DDNI - Gmail works with YAM and I think Cammy wrote that it worked with Hotmail.
