Guardian A1200

Hopefully someone can help: I'm having problems controlling the ship in the CD32 whdload version of Guardian on my A1200 - I don't have a cd32 pad and joystock/ps2 pads not working properly. Aside from me buying a cd32 compatible pad - is there a way to fix the controls?
Alternatively, I think an A1200 version was released but cant seem to find it anywhere.
