[Found : Youma Ninpou Chou] Old arcade, vertical shoot em up
This is really foggy, i'll try to describe as better as i remember this old arcade that i have played at time.
The first level was a vertical shmup on the sky, and the main character was a sort of monk, iirc some of the graphics remembered Kikikaikai, but better. Also the weapons and the enemies had something similar to that game, jappo traditional style at least. Two cooperative players could be used also, and you walked upon the clouds, or you were flying with one. There were a lot of clouds in that level Now, possibly even worse memories, but the other levels were also horizontal shmup, plus some big end-of-level bosses (a dragon too?). The gfx was very good for the time, i can't remember the correct year, but i'm quite sure i had the C64 --- EDIT --- added some info in the op, no matches with the entire Taito arcade set, looking on Wikipedia. I managed to remember also that later in time i have played Street Fighter 1 and Rastan Saga, so prolly the years can be 1986/87/88 Last edited by kremiso; 08 September 2022 at 14:27. |

Nah Retro, it's a vertical shoot em up
Imagine a classic shoot em up but the plane have been replaced with monk or samurai. |

I have literally just played an arcade game today on my MiSTer which sounds like this !! I had never played it before and it surprised me that the main "ship" was a kinda samurai type guy. Now what was it called....

Still searching through MAME currently... up to letter F.
Definitely don't think it's this, as it's too recent from the game I'm thinking of; but I'll post anyway: ESP Ra.De [ Show youtube player ] ...but similar, more medieval / samurai times. |

Another one, but still not the game I was thinking of:
Ninja Emaki [ Show youtube player ] Edit: this actually fits your description perfectly kremiso... Oh, and the game was released in Japan as "Youma Ninpou Chou". Last edited by DamienD; 08 February 2021 at 00:56. |

Double confirm, the game has been found
my cousin is 10 years younger than me, so has a more clean memory; he reminded the later 'lava' level, with the big skeleton monster, and the alternate, not cooperative 2 play ; my confirm instead come to the end of the game itself, no end sequence, a point bonus, and the game fast continue with the first level again i think the correct version played was the 'Youma Ninpou Chou' bootleg; added to the Mame arcade set, instantly (seems the rom has yet some protection issues, but the game works) DamienD strike again |

Great news
...mind you, I still haven't found the game I was originally thinking of, which is similar to "Guwange" but less recent. |
