Amiga web browsers and transparent PNGs
Ahoy chaps.
We're currently working on a new layout at Dream17. We're very intent on using transparent pNG files for a lot of the snazzy stuff we'd like to do, but I am ashamed to say that none of us have Amigas that can get onto the Internet. Consequently, none of us know if they display properly in any of the Amiga's browsers (ABrowse, et al.). Can someone let me know? If it doesn't work is there a workaround? |

Even IE have problems with transparent PNGs. Why dont use .gif? or is 256 colors not enough?
ps. i know how hard is it to code so it looks good in Amiga browsers. |

I like PNGs. And I use Firefox, so it's not a big deal. We have an IE workaround we intend to implement anyway, but it's just making sure those of you who browse using Amigas can still view the site as intended.
As much as I like GIFs (I love the pixel effect error diffusion gives an image when you reduce the colours) we're trying to "gloss it up" and make it easier to navigate. |

I just did a test. Transparent PNG works great in Ibrowse 2.4 .

What about Alpha-transparency? Have a look at this - http://stuff.benpaddon.co.uk/concept2.png
That;'s a very, very early concept so don't take it as the final layout just yet, but the white bit with the purple fade at the top and bottom is transparent. How does that show in ABrowse? |

Ok it worked if i copy and pasted the link in the location bar.
The site layout looks nice. Simple and clean. I use Paintshop Pro 7.x to make transparently gifs/pngs. Try that if you dont have already. |

Ah, that's my fault - forgot to add EAB to my allowed referrers list.
Glad you like the new layout. We're working on the new design now. Probably won't be up before the new year but we're aiming for some time over the next couple of months. |

Unrelated: I had a hard time reading that font (titles/buttons). And I'm a badass reader

We do get emails to that effect on occasion. The new version of the website has text links and will be generally a lot nicer.
