A Few Misc. Amiga Questions (PAL Games, Batteries, and Monitors)
Now that my Amiga 2000 is working again (thanks to everyone who helped), I have a few questions:
1. I was thinking about making a PAL/NTSC switch for my 2000. Are there that many PAL only games worth playing to worry about doing this? Any major PAL only releases? 2. The battery on my 2000 was removed a long time ago after it had leaked (damage was fixed). Is it worth putting a new battery back in? Since I'm using this system for games only, are there any games that used the system clock for something? 3. I have a choice between using my 1084 monitor and my 1080 monitor Other than the 1080 not supporting PAL (which without the switch isn't relevant anyway), is one better than the other in any way? They look about the same to me in terms of picture 4. Assuming I use the 1080, I need to figure out how to adjust the vertical height since it's not quite right. Is the adjust inside the case? If so, is it simple to get to? I know about avoiding the diode cup on the tube and all that stuff as I've adjusted several other monitors in the past. Thanks for all the help guys, I really appreciate it. |

1. the vast majority of games are pal..

I opened up my 1080 yesterday to see if there was some sort of internal vertical position adjust and could not find one. The only two additional adjusts I found were focus and picture. If there's a vertical position adjust for this monitor then it's hidden VERY well as I hunted all over for it and couldn't find one.

Some C= monitors had one of the picture adjustments as a small trimmer in the back panel.
The focus + picture knobs on the LOPT should be left alone until as a very last resort. Basically at that point your electron guns are already close to their end of life if you have to touch those.. I've yet to see a 108x monitor that has had those two settings drift over the years. |

Yeah I left those two alone since the picture is perfect. The only pot adjust on the back panel is the vertical height, not the position.

Games
The vast majority of games in Europe are PAL, the vast majority of games in North America are NTSC. This matters if you display them on a TV or old non-multi sync monitor

I know that, my question is really how many PAL only games (with no NTSC release) are worth playing? Some systems had very little NTSC support and a large PAL market and vice versa.

Is this a rhetorical question?
Quote:
That question has no response; if you use a multisync solution, the answer is, "all of them." If you use the TV/non-multisync option, the answer is, "a bunch of them." The more they "were worth playing," the more likely they had Bi-oceanic releases. |

Bruce Dern said that to John Wayne in "True Grit" circa 1969; it means you are asking a lot of folks to respond to, how many NTSC games "are worth playing."

I'm going to add a PAL/NTSC switch this weekend so I should be covered either way.
