Reassembling - FRONTIER
Hi All!
First of all: I'm not a coder. I can't programming. But, I have problem... I want to make a polish version of Frontier Elite II. Is this possible to make a source code from a executable file with help of InGo, IRA or ReSource reassembler? And more important: Is possible to make after this again a executable file? |

I would say: yes, it's possible using e.g. IRA and phxass. Notice that maybe weeks of work are necessary to do that. And if you're not experienced in miggy coding it will take even longer...
You could replace all strings in the binaries with polish strings of the same length instead. Of course this will only work with unpacked data and without a checksum check... |

But, PhxAss can't compile this reassembled source code. And I know, I can make the polish version using e.g. Filemaster. But, I want to make a POLISH version, with polish fonts and without shorting too longer names. Hmm, maybe should I start to learn m68k assembler?

Because I see this. I run PhxAss, the compilation started, PASS 1...
PASS2... and now I see MUCH FULL of errors. "String too long", "illegal code" and so on...Hmm, I don't speak very well English, but, I can speak/write German... Könntest du mich helfen? |

Frontier would have to be one of the worst games you could pick for disassembling. If you believe David Braben, almost the entire game is code not graphics and music like most games. Therefore the file would be enormous, and if there are lots of tables with relative offsets etc, it will be an absolute pig to disassemble.
If you can't make your changes with simple string replacements I would seriously not waste your time trying to assemble the game. You will surely break the game (and it's buggy enough to begin with) doing major changes such as moving large sections around to accomodate more text. |

Thanks for help!
Hmm, ja, mein Deutsch ist viel besser als Englisch. Aber ich verstehe, worum es dir geht. Es soll "Könntest du MIR helfen?" sein |
