Erm, Symbian games still use J2ME (Jave 2 Micro Edition), just like all other modern phones.

No they don't. They write directly to the Symbian API.

Looks great. Now if only I saw a use for games on mobile phones... I'd rather read when I have nothing else to do, I'll play games with a PS2 controller in my hands.

Puzzle Bobble....
That is THE only game I play on my mobile, and the only time is when I'm stood in the playground waiting for the school bell to go so I can take my kids home |

I agree with blade002, don't really like playing games on a mobile. The controls usually suck, to be expected though.
Although as bippym has said, Puzzle Bubble is quite good on a mobile phone. There are loads of Sega remakes available also. Haven't tried any yet but Wonder Boy would be cool: http://www.segamobile.com/ |

you are both wrong, having a good mobile with good hardware is a great gaming experience, phone+games
good phones for games are N6600, N70, E60, E61 all nokia and all having joysticks... n6600 has a 104mhz arm cpu, n70 a 230 one and the E's perhaps a 300+ one, I am not sure... see some symbian games on a friend and then make conclusions... not to mention that some ex-amiga programmers have gone symbian, like http://www.idreams.pl/main.php having amiga techics in games... |

really? with what device? with a symbian devide is like having a gp2x with a phone, but with less convenient controls...
I don't won't to sound like an a$$ but there are major key differences with java and phones with OS... also this new JAVA3D games for the newer phones (with os or without) is just great... VERY VERY amazing and the games are very high in quality, I never thought java would be so smooth, nice and 3D... lol just my 2c... |

Hi people,
i was quite amazed to see a post talking about our company ^^ . We are a bunch of Amiga/Atari lovers and old amiga/atari coders/graphist/musician. To make a little precision these games are not java at all but Symbian, that means written in C++ directly accessing the hardware much more powerful than the J2ME, all our ports are working like originals and sometime better !(take a look at Another World). We are able to do lot of stuff thats' its not possible in J2ME like playing mod, sfx, packing/unpacking, use some ASM. Theses games are going to be available on Smartphones and pocketpc very soon too. We have recently signed Indigo with stéphane, I really think its going to be great on mobile ! More games are going to follow quite soon Amiga for life ( and Atari as well but less :-) ) PS : Magic Puz is a homemade game as Invasion. |
