Kickstart DAT

I've just downloaded the latest TIM and database and I cannot find any details about the A3000 SuperKickstart (ROM) Images.

Were they omitted for a reason?

They are of no real use in emulation, but neither is the corresponding Kickstart 1.4a15 r36.15 image that uses them but it _IS_ in the database.

SuperKickstart images live on the hard drive of an A3000 which has a physical set of Kickstart 1.4a15 ROMS. They live in DEVS: and are named (suprisingly) "kickstart".

There are at least 3 files that I know of (covering KS 1.3, 2.04 and 3.1) and I think that there are more (for different revisions of each of these three)

They are larger than a regular A3000 ROM image because they contain "bonus code" for setting up the A3000 hardware and remaining ROM resident.

They are of the sizes:

526,848 or 526,572 for 2.x/3.x
282,624 or 283,136 for 1.3

Why there are two different sizes per version I am unsure.

You can read more about them here.

It would be good to get some information about them as the files are ALL named just "kickstart" and you cannot really tell them apart, except for distinguishing if they are 2.x/3.x or 1.3!

I can provide CRCS for the 3 that I have, but I've already found someone today with a different one to the 3 I have! We probably have different revisions of the same Superkickstart file i.e. 40.68 and 40.70.

A couple SuperKickstart ADFs are in TOSEC. You use a tool to extract the ROM from floppy to hard drive. The 3.0 and 3.1 SuperKickstart disks were never released to the public, but you can probably use a tool like MakeSuperDisk to make an one.

I know.

As you say disks were never released to the public. Honestly no one really cares about the disks (ADF's)... we are interested in the 3.0 / 3.1 SuperKickstart ROM images that were distributed to developers.

Sure you can... but MakeSuperDisk no good unless you have the SuperKickstart ROM images (which are different from any of the A3000 ROM images in TOSEC) to make them from!

To clarify what I was trying to say.

The A3000 3.1 ROM image IS in TOSEC (as well as 2.x which are in SuperKickstart disk format). Are you just saying they should be there in both formats?

BTW, I haven't seen the 3.0 ROM for years. I'd guess it wasn't too terribly popular due to Workbench not being offered as an upgrade for non-AGA Amigas.

Erm yeah, kinda. Also saying there is a 3rd format called SuperKickstart ROM image which is the data extracted from a SuperKickstart ADF.
