Check your tool-types... see what is there... try adding a few.

Does it crash when you boot with no startup-sequence and run it from there (CLI)?

either a lot of slaves need update, or my A4000 config is not very compatible!
played JimPower, and I get flashing gfx and some black horizontal lines across the screen!!! maybe I need to donate a 060 A4000 cpu card to a whdload slave author... |

There were some changes made for WHDLoad v16 that broke some older slaves. If you are having problems, pester the slave author for an update or use an older WHDLoad.

whdload version doesn't work properly when switching between tactical and geoscape.
It's probably because the game keeps writing something to the disks. |

I'm getting a variation of this where when beginning a mission the equip screen is bypassed, it goes straight to the tactical screen but only displays the controls at the bottom of the screen, the rest of the screen is black. I can abort the "mission" and it tells me the "Alien dies as there is no containment facility". I return to the geoscape and my base has been moved into the sea?? As soon as I speed up time it tells me there is "Not enough money to produce Fusion Ball Launcher" and it crashes back to the workbench.
Er, I know thats pretty specific but it happens every time, anyone had similar, and is there a solution? |

On my A4000 the WHD version works - but to load or save a gamestate took 3-5 minutes. The screen flashes and the Amiga freezes - any idea?

I've had so much trouble getting UFO Enemy Unknown to work that I thought I'd better post hopefully to help others out.
Install to hard disk from the floppy disk images or disks? for me it was the only way to get it to work reliably on my set up at least. The AGA and CD32 WHDload versions never worked for me either blank screen on missions or refusing to save the game also regular crashing back to workbench. I also tried loading the game from floppy images on my Gotek drive but couldn't get the a save disk to work! I formatted and labelled it UFOsaves which got the game to recognise it but then got an error along the lines of "error in block 880". I also had a copy on a CF card in the PCMIA slot but had similar problems to the WHDload versions. A install from the disks or images in the Gotek drive appears to be the only way to get it working reliably. Obviously this was for me and others may have better results with their own set ups. This was on my Amiga 1200 with Gotek drive, 4GB CF hdd and ACA 1220. |

Have you considered using openxcom instead?
You can get it to be just like the Amiga ECS or AGA version with font mods and the music replacements from this site http://users.atw.hu/xcom-sounds/ Just realised I replied to a necro'ed post :/ Last edited by Zaxth; 29 October 2015 at 00:23. Reason: Realised I unintentionally necroe'd |

I tried this game (WHDLoad AGA version, Retroplay`s pre-insnstall) on my A1200 040 AGA 3.1. So far it works. Except PRELOAD no other special tooltypes used.
There is a problem with saving. If there is no save directory in the data directory (Game_1, Game_2, ...) then WHDLoad can`t find it and exit with error. After creating all 5 game dirs you can save games. The first save tooks some time with os swaps but further saves are fast (mentioned in WHDLoad install readme). @chewie303 This might be a math problem. Wrong math libs if used by the game. Maybe a CPU/FPU incompatibility? @Zaxth: Thanks for the link. I will have a look. |
